I've been away from my family since I went to the University, 8 years ago. I'd go back home every few months. After university I got married. But I could visit them a every few months too. Longest was 6 months apart between visits.
Now that I am living thousands of miles away. I haven't met them nearly 2 years. I miss them sometimes. Call them up when I really really miss them. That's it.
All I can say is, you'd get use to it.
