I'm wondering if there are any literature majors on mylot. I'm one myself and I guess i'm looking for company...lol. I'm also wondering why you decided to pick literature as your major. Is it because you love to read and write or was it a fall back option for you? Please share..thanks:)

I am a post graduate in English Literature and I am past middle age.
I finished my M.A.in the year 1978 and I recall my college days with great fondness and nostalgia.
I read Romance novels[both English and Tamil]with great fervour .I also love historical novels in my regional language .I have read a select few stories of P.G.Wodehouse.
Mills and Boon novels are my all time favourite.
As far as aS literature goes I have a great partiality for Nature Poetry, Shakespeare's plays and wit and humour.
I love fairy tales , mythology, small religious stories, fables and Panchathanthra stories.
I love to read some regular Tamil magazines and I also love chatting[however , this has nothing to do with my subject and this is just additional information.]
Why did I decide to pick literature as my major?--for the silly reason that my friends had all opted for this, the valid reason that I had taken Mathematics , Physics and Chemistry in my Pre University course and I did not fancy these, for the most legitimate reason that I always stood first in English and won a gold medal in this [with a creditable first University rank --topper among thousands of candidates]

Thanks for commenting on my post. I've never read Tamil novels and I might just check them out. I really do like Shakespeare as well, his tragedies are really great.

That's been happening to me since I was a little kid; I always forgot that I was eating whenever I had a good book infront of me. My mother never liked the fact that I ended up wasting my food!!:) I'm trying to branch out into lots of different genres right now and experience the world through that. Thanks alot for commenting

I was an English and German major, read a lot of literature, but was more into the linguistics side of things. I enjoyed reading a lot of the things that were assigned but I pretty much had no use for literary analysis. I just enjoyed reading for the readin.

I enjoy reading for the reading as well and well thats why i decided to be a literature major. i figured if i loved reading so much i should definitely continue with something that interests me. well when i first started doing the analytical side of literature in high school i must admit it was a little strange for me but it got better in no time and you realise (at least for me) that its not that hard at all its just purely fun:)

I am an English major and we tackle a lot on literature in our studies. We studied Philippine, English, American, and Afro-Asian literature. I truly enjoyed our class in our literature subjects. From those different works, I discovered the beauties of life and sometimes it's irony also. What makes me love literature is also my inclination in reading.I learned a lot on reading those different stories like the cultures and the way of living of different people.Literature helps me in philosophizing about life also. I can say that it is really a mirror of one's country.

Thanks so much for commenting.
I totally agree with you about literature mirroring one's country. I've mostly done Caribbean literature so far ( I am from Jamaica) and some British novels and I must say for the Caribbean works it does mirror life. In my following semesters my range in books will broaden and I can't wait; i'm always excited about literature because it just opens up a whole new world, not to mention your own creative genius. It has always been my favourite subject and i'm glad i decided to study it.
