I think it's good to have a cellphone around so you can call your children anytime you want except school hours of course. This will keep you on track with your kids. Try to visit them too as often as you can you you can be around for their needs. Have someone near them report to you on what's going on.

join sites like myspace or face book and I bet you hear from them then lol. My Friends kids call for advice, moeny or cause they are home sick, but that changed later on. It gave everyone a chance to miss them. They sometimes would send care packages with a note. The kids sure loved that.

Another thing you could do is send them emails. Even in this electronic age, not everyone has a cellphone. So they should use email. All students will get an email, assuming they don't have one already, for school. This is just another avenue of keeping contact.

I'm sure that they already have a mobile (cell) phone, as most people seem to have one, especially young people. It's also likely that your child has a Facebook account. If so, then you could get an account as well and you can become friends and use it to communicate with eachother. I keep in touch with so many members of my family and friends who live far away using Facebook; it's so easy!
You might find that your child doesn't want to become Facebook friends with you, as they'll want some privacy and not want their parent seeing everything that they get up to! However, they can still give you access to their limited profile, which just includes the details that they want you to see. It's better than nothing, honestly! It's worth it to have this extra way of keeping in touch.
