If someone has a 10 star rating, do you still rate them?

I think the 10 star rating is the last or maximum rating here at mylot, and people with that kind of rating I'm sure they somehow feel happy and i believe they are the one's best contributing to the community. But one thing i don't understand is if someone really make an impact on my discussion and obviously that would either deserve the best respond or a positive rating, but what if that someone has already had a 10 star rating, do we still have to rate them? I mean where will our rating go because they already achieved the maximum?

A member who has a ten star rating earns it because other members have consistenly given them a positive rating but that can change at any time. At least that is how I understand the situation but if for example a member was given a few negative ratings, then the rating could change. If we think there is merit in a response in that it has answered or question, given s a new insight into the topic or maybe just an interesting response then we should give the person a positive. Again that is how I feel about the situation because, according to myLot, the rating comes from how other members view our activities here. We as individuals are the only ones who know just how another members discussion or response affects us. That is why we need to rate others and hope that they will do the same. I am not sure that either a positive or negative rating is reflected in our earnings in any way. So for me that is not an issue when I rate either discussion or responses made by other members. Also I do not think whether a rating affects the earnings should be used as a determining factor.

Actually I do not think we can assume that those wth a blue star are not being rated either positive or negative. Possibly if they have a blue star, most of the time they get a positive rating but recently I read where some point/star ratings have taken a sudden drop. There have and still are discussions about "trolls" and it is said they are people who seem to actively "attack" the ratings on certain members by giving them a negative. For that reason a positive needs to be awarded if the response or discussion warrants it. You are correct when you say the member who has a blue star will not notice a change if they get a positive rating. To the best of my knowledge that is true or at least what I have read here in other discussions. In the past I have seen were someone has commented something like "Excellent response. Thanks for your help. I have given you a positiove (+) rating" or words to that effect but the main point is that someone has taken the time to rate a person positive and also comment on that fact. Hope that helps you a little bit and that you can understand what I am saying. It is the best way that I can think of how to explain it to you right now ... brain is fuddled. lol

Yes is great to rate people who have made a positive impact on whatever discussion we started and if feels like give them a positive rating then that's is great, but one thing that make me wonder is how will this people see or know that they are being rated(obviously positively) by other members? I mean for someone who has maybe a 5 star rating will easily see when his/her stars starts to go up that people do rate him/her. And i think is a bit not fair for those with blue star, although i do rate them but sometimes i wonder where is my rating going because then this people have reached the maximum and they are on top there I mean what if no one rate them positive and again no one rate them negative, how will they know that people still do rate them because i believe your rating cannot go down if you are inactive or no one rate you bad

good question loxon, To my understanding, I'm not rating the individual, I'm rating the content. If it's good content, I give it a plus and if it's not so good content, it gets a minus. Even if it's something I don't agree with, if it's good contant, it gets a plus. If it's something I do agree with but is not so good, it gets a minus. Just trying to keep it objective. Happy MyLotting!

That is so true, rating the contents and i think the results of rating those contents do reflect on the individual's status in terms of their stars. I do good contents for people with good responses but sometimes i feel like am i wasting my rating here, i mean this is the person who is on top and yet i rate them...where will my rating go? But i still rate them if they are good in what they have responded or if i feel that they clarified something that i didn't know

Hi There Loxion! Yup, sometimes, I still do rate them as long as I like their discussion. :) But I admit that there are times that I forgot to rate them because I am too busy looking and responding into other's people discussion! Cheers!

The thing is that...they cannot see when people rated them positive, like now i just rated you how will you see that, because you already have a blue star?, don't you think is unfair to you guys because for us who have not yet reached the blue star we can see when people do rate us, we could see by our rating status going up but for you is like a different story because you already on maximum ratings?

Yes you still have to rate and rating is a continuous process. Even if one has achieve this already there is a possibility that it will go back to lower star with negative ratings given by some people so supporting a friend or any user with continuous positive rating is helpful so I always rate my friends positive and also all users who posts are interesting to me.

I get an idea now, but what in case of someone who always make positive responses, someone who don't deserve to get negative ratings, someone who has great respect and who is well respected here, not that we don't respect or not respected here but someone with that great reputation, will that still be necessary to rate them? I mean don't you think is a waste?, yes i do rate people who have less that 10 star rating but when i see someone with the maximum rating then i always think that maybe I'm wasting my time in rating them

Just rate the post on the basis of how you find it. When you find it positive then rate positive but if you find it negative then rate negative. Don't ever be hindered by his or her present rating. In fact I believe you get also some benefits from doing so.

Benefits, Salonga, what kind of benefits are those, are you saying that affect the earning in one way or the other?

I would like to know if the rating keeps changing? i mean does it only go up as you post more or does it also come down.I see that i am stuck with 7 since a long time now.So it goes up, then on what basis? because i see some with many more posts having a rating of 6 or even 5.is there a creiteria here for rating?

Is been 3 days now and I'm stuck on 9, apparently you rating goes up when people rate you positive and goes down when they rate you negative and the maximum for the rating is 10 as you might know, but i am wondering is do we have to rate those people who have 10th star?. By saying do we have to rate them I'm only referring to rating them positive because if we rate them negative obviously they will go down but we have to keep rating them positive even if they have already archived 10th star?

Loxion. I had a ten star rating for one day last week. I was really proud. The next day it turned back to a nine star. I do not know why either. I think we should keep giving ratings to all we think good or they will go down quite quickly like mine did. I always rate everyone with a good reply when I see it. If I start a discussion I always give the best response to the person who has answered the best regardless of their ratings. We need to keep the people up there too. Take care Loxion.

I hear you Hildas and sorry about you loss of that seat up there, i think the ratings are fair for others and a bit unfair on others. It is fair for those who have not yet got the 10th star because then they can see the progress when their ratings go up. And a bit unfair on those who have already reached the maximum because they cannot see that they have rated positively, the only thing they will see is when people rate them negatively and end-up loosing few rating(like in your case). I have heard someone here saying that the ratings do affect the way we earn and i am totally not sure about that and I'm yet to find out about it

Well I do not think myself that a higher rating affects the earnings. My earnings where the same. I guess we will never know. I do not know how I went down to a nine but I must of annoyed someone or something which I do not really do, but sure I will work hard again to get back up there. Take care.

Yes, I still rate members who have a 10 ratings. Why? because I have seen where someone has been mean spirited and gone through and gave people with 10 stars negatives just to see their ratings go down.

I am not sure why people do that. I thend to think it ios because they are jealous that they can not obtain the 10 star status. But in reality it is not that hard if you follow the MyLot guidelines and respond to yoru friends discussions as well. I do think what one does here on MyLot can affect how others leave star ratings or not as well. I think giving someone a plus rating helps keep someone a ten star. When you get one or two people who down rate a member for having a ten star rating. So, in the long run even thou you don't see it. It does help keep teh rating up. Next time you look at your star, pull your mouse over it and look at your rating. Mine is a 96 out of a 100. That means someone has downrated me at least 4 percent of the time from keeping me from having a perfect score. Also it would not take much to bring my score back down.

Whatpeople really do that, i mean why would someone do that, is it out of jealousy? If there are people doing that i think is just bad, how can someone be always trying to bring us down? But i think is fair to rate people who made difference in our discussions but those with blue star sometimes i wonder when i rate them if whether my rating will count or will it get thrown away, because then they reached the maximum rating needed.

rating someone even if that someone already have a 10 star rating is highly recommended in this site, this shows our appreciation to the person's post or the person itself and our true participation to mylot. although there is no guarantee that star rating affects our earning still having a good rating boost our ego and motivates us to do better in posting discussions and participating here in mylot.

That's better but how will that person we just rated who has a 10th star know that because the only i believe is possible is when your rating goes up but here the person has already achieved the maximum, now how will he/she knows that they have received lot of positive ratings lately?

Well, even if they already have a 10 star rating... it would be unfair not to rate them... especially when they really deserve that +... i always rate discussions, responses, and comments that i think are of quality... regardless of the star of the member... that is just fair...

I don't think that is the case here... even if the person will not see progress... that doesn't mean that we should not give him/her the positive rating he/she deserves... so it is really up to you if you want to or not... nothing will be lost if you do what you think is right...
@loxion (1553)

Yep that is fair, but how will the person you just rated see the progress in that, i mean if someone has not yet reached that maximum rating obviously will see the progress when he/she see their rating going up. Like right now when i rate you, i don't think you will see any progress in that, although you deserve it but then you wont see it because you already reached the maximum. Thanks

Is always fair to rate people who have responded with positive response toward your discussion or if you feel that a certain member really have made difference in one or two things that you had no knowledge of. But do you think is fair for them, because they cannot see or know if whether people still do rate them, because the only way they should know is when their star goes up but in this case they have already reached the maximum

I think it helps them keep there "10" Mine went down to a "9" along time ago and I;ve never regained it again. I wish I could. I would like to be a 10 again but it's not the end of the world. I definetly rate all discussions that I respond to regardless of there rating.

I am sorry you lost the top seat, well for i've been on 9 i think is now thirty something days and like you said i never worry about anything. I think is always great to rate everyone that respond to your discussion as to show the appreciation even though those on blue star might see it, and i think is unfair to them because they cannot see when people rate them positive, the only way they will see that people do rate them is when their rating goes down like in your case

Well, as for me I still rate all the people who had response in my discussion with a positive (+) ratings.. I don't want to be unfair for those who had a high rating already.. Each one of us deserves to give a rate depends on the comment you have post but for me I always give positive ratings to all who response in my discussions.. I don't give negative or neutral ratings to the people who made a comment to my discussions.. I think even those people who have already a 10 star still need to be rate because our ratings will be the proof whether they are deserving with that kind of ratings.. And besides they need to have a positive ratings so that they will be able to maintain their star.. If someone had rate negative to those who have 10 star then there's a possibility that their star will go down to 9,8,7, so on depends on how many negative ratings they had received.. It doesn't mean that you already reach your 10 star you're safe already.. People need to rate you and still you need to maintain a good or best discussions so that you will be able to maintain of getting good ratings..

I don't remember rating anyone negative either but i think there are unfairness for those on top because they cannot see when people are rating them positive. What would happen if someone is on a blue star and no one rate the negative or positive, i guess it wont go down and obviously not up either, how will that particular person know that they are being rated or not because then no one is rating them. I do rate people with blue star when i feel that they helped me on certain thing which maybe i needed clarification on or maybe they have been so supportive but still i wonder how where does my rating goes because this person is already on blue star

I never give negative rating either but is difficult because then you cannot see what the other person is rating you, and i think that is fair about mylot not to reveal that because then there might be lot of hatred here. But i think then is fair for us to rate yes that i agree but unfair for those who have reached that because you cannot see the progress on your ratings

i think it is good rate a thing if the content is really superb.i make it a point to rate the things .the presence of rating represented in stars does not any job in earning.but if you rate plus in the discussion it adds up to the earning.we can rate them even though they have received the maximum......happy myloting have a nice day.......

I didn't know that it does affect the way we earn but if it really do then i guess i have make sure that i rate as many people as i can because then they would do the same, even though i am not sure who earns, is it me the one who is rating or is it the the one who got rated?

Personally, why would you not want to Rate them? If you had a "10" I would rate you same as if a person only has a "1" or "2" star in here as well. I feel that if a discussion is Good it is worth rating, because if no one was to rate others here, the Ratings would never go up, and then we would have a lot more Trash on here than what we do as well.

Your question appears somewhat right, however, I may add here we should not stop rating a post, just because the member has already reached blue star status, if we continue to do so, his/her ratings may remain static and may not come down. I have seen some members with the ratings of 99/100 and 100/100. I feel that they really write some quality posts and others always rate them positive, so that they continue to retain their blue star. If one does not write quality posts etc., even if he/she has a blue star, it is possible that one fine morning, his/her rating may come down and the colour of his/her star may turn red.

I do not know the meaning of star with certain numbers.I only think it refer the how many discussions you started or replied, right? When I finished the 100th discussions and received a star with number 7, I was really happy.Somehow I was sad cause some of my discussions received no comment.I do not set goals to fulfill at mylot, but I would be more happy if I could get 10 star ration.

The stars simply shows how effective you are here, how much you really contribute here, but overall is not that important but yet most people want to see themselves having that rating. I am sorry to hear that some of you discussions received no responses or comments but it happen most of the time to me also. My 9 rating has been stuck like that for the past 39 days now and i have been online most of the time, i guess i contribute less to the community but i don't have to worry about a thing because that do not affect my earnings

I don't know but for me, I think that the next 10 star rating that the user will get will just be added to his previous rating. It's like, if someone rated him badly, like just a star or 2, then maybe a next 10 star rating will help him get again the 10 star rating. I don't think that this is right but this is just how I see it. Hope that this helped you. Have a nice day.
