A world without religion will be much more peaceful

I certainly believe that world without religion would be much more peaceful than a world with religion. God or almighty (Allah, Jesus, Lord Krishna, Buddha, Pagan beliefs, Greek gods etc) shouldnt have been known to Humans, if he/She hadnt been known to this world we might have probably lived much more peacefully.
(On contrary)
This is just my thinking. We all know that people who take to terrorism are losers who have nothing to do to survive so they feed themselves by inflaming wrong thoughts. This happened right from thousands and thousands of centuries. There is no dearth of losers on this world so if religion was not known they might have some other excuse to start spoiling young minds.
What do you think. please post your comments without inflaming any religion.
My vote will be for no religion world because i dont want to die for a God whom i never saw and certainly not hell or heaven and no one spoke to me from hell and heavan(till now).

I don't agree. I think religion has brought more peace to the world. It might not seem that way if you just look at what the terrorist are doing, but most of the major wars throughout history have been political not religious. I know there have been religious wars, but they don't begin to compare with the political wars. And what about everyday life? How many daily occurrences are there of people lying, cheating, stealing and killing, not for any religion, but just because they want what someone else has. If they had followed the teachings of Jesus, they would not have done any of those things. Religion tries to teach us to love one another. Not following those teachings is when we get into trouble.

Yes, religion seems to have got an unfair reputation. The terrorist outrages that we hear about, are often linked. But these people are only really using religion as their excuse. Of course, on the other side of the coin, they maybe "freedom fighting". If we are all honest with ourselves, we would admit that we all have some good and not so good, within us. So, of course that is reflected on the outside.
As you say, religion teaches us to love one another. That is a good practice - ultimately, we help ourselves - what goes round, comes around, karma and all that.
All the best!

I respect your belief but I don't think so that religion is the reason behind the bad things that is happening around us.I think it is more of the selfishness and greediness of some people why until now, we cannot attain peace. For me, we cannot blame God on what is happening right now.Crimes and anomalies happened because of people's desire for money and power. It is happening because of people's dissatisfaction on what they have.
I believe in God. I know that there is God. We cannot deny the fact that there are certain things which are unexplainable. For example, who made the universe, the stars, the sun? He made all things beautiful. It is only men who destroys it.Man cannot explain all things, even science cannot do that. How will you explain certain situations in which someone has given number of months to live but so many years had passed but that man is still living? Isn't because of faith? It is true that no one of us had seen God but we can feel Him. He cares for us and I believe no one can reach God's intelligence. We should never doubt His existence.

"In the beginning.." undifferentiated God. Everything cannot come from nothing.. There has to be a "first element". The question, I think, is does that first element have intelligence/consciousness?
- Annierose, I agree and do not think it is religion that is to blame, but human nature!

I too am supporting this statement. It is humanity that causes the havoc in us. I do believe that even if you removed religion in our lives human nature will find ways to create havoc in some other means or ideology that will sprout out there. Religions is easily blamed because religion doesn't spouse violence at all and there are just people who are stirrer of things and they use religion as their weapon but still it is him that just manipulates everything.

Please quit lumping Buddhism in with all those silly God beliefs. It is far different than them.

Gee with the world free of religion, I can see a world of unbroken peace when others are told over and over how ignorant they are.. "Silly God beliefs"... the automobile used to be a mystery and a silly notion also.. Rockets, television.. We should have just stopped at the wheel. We could outlaw everything else, you know how peaceful that makes things. A few thought police. What should we do with the dissidents? If it wasn't deeper thought and philosophies, it would be something else as quite a few, it seems of the human race simply adore belittling and opposing others, and I've yet to find a group or type or class of folks who don't have some in their ranks of this more despicable tendency. Nah we keep falling for the same old, same old (belittling, stereotyping and bigotry).. or at least enough do. I'm relieved to see there's not many of those on mylot.

Well if there were no belief in God or any other religion then there is nothing to tell people when they do wrong and there will those who will think that since there is no God, they can steal, kill, or plunder and terrorize with impunity because they will not have the guilt that holds them in check.
It is not about dying for the sake of God, it is about restraining you from doing evil. For instance, if there were no God, then if someone harms you, you will have nothing to restrain you from avenging the wrong done to you.
And since God exist, and is not like you wish a big person who takes mortal form like Zeus, and will grab you by the collar and say, "don"t' or turns you into a toad when you disobey, you will never believe.
The only time God appeared as man was when HE came to the earth as Jesus and lived thirty years on earth.

Hi choudhary, The problems regarding religion really had nothing to do with such people as Jesus,Lord Krishna,Buddha etc. These were very wish men who taught a good way of life. The problem lies with how their teachings have often been misunderstood. Must Buddhists of course are very peaceful people. If all religions really got back to their roots, there would be no fighting because it would be seen that we are all one. That doesn't mean there would be no war but no wars over religion. Blessings.

It's true a world without a religion would be a much better place, so many people die because of religions and the people who follow them.
You know its really crazy to think that if everyone was asked there views on the world without anyone saying anything to influence there thoughts everyones views on the world would be different. Most people are pretty much brainwashed into believing a religion because they are born into a family whom believe in such things. Not many people live there life to the fullest because they believe once they die something out there is better than what we have now, but why go on believing something like that, when we have everything we need and more here to make us happy. For all we know we only live once why waste it.

Do gang bangers kill for their god? Do rapists attack women out of zeal? Did Hitler try to take over Europe in deference to some deity? In fact, were any of our world's major wars fought over whose god is God?
You have to go back to the crusades to find a major war that was fought for religious reasons.
Now, that doesn't mean that none of the violence since has had religious motivations. Islamist Fundamentalist terrorism, of course, is for religious purpose. The Salem Witch trials were violence in the name of religion. Abortion doctors getting shot would be another example.
But what I'm getting at is, while there are examples of religious violence in world history, it is far from the only reason people attack one another.
If I were to pick one single cause of violence in the world it would be pride. Love of self over others is what causes the religious, greedy, power hungry, lustful and every other reason to attack someone else.
Justifying actions because "I'm right and your wrong" is the basis of all violence except one... violence for the sake of violence itself.

'Blaming' religion/the religious, to me is just the same old same old, man has always fallen for.. It's not us! It's them over there! They're to blame. I daresay, that is a cause of many wars, etc.. And all different groups of people have those who embrace it..

Don't you think that religion has contributed many things to this world? Don't you think that Mother Teresa contributed all that she did because of her religious persuasion? Don't you know William Wilberforce fought for the abolition of slavery in British parliament because his religious persuasion taught him that all human beings are equal before God? Did not Modern Science rise in that environment that was nurtured by the religious belief that nature is God's creation waiting to be explored? How could we easily forget history!
I do not, of course, mean to say that religious is all good and there is nothing bad. Religious history like Politics is a mixture of both good and bad. The world will be much poorer without it. In fact, more people in the history of humanity have been killed by those who tried to wipe religion off the face of the earth than those killed in the name of religion.

Where our ancestors went wrong, in my opinion, is organizing religion into a control mechanism for divisiveness. It promoted an "us against them" mentality which evolved into the exact opposite of the original teachings. It evolved into hatred or pity for anyone other than believers in their religion, greed by church officials, oppression of thought and free will and of course the ever present "justifiable" violence.
What every human being should have been and should be taught is true ethics. How to preserve life with kindness, cooperation and tolerance. How to respect all life with equal treatment and acceptance without oppression. How to live in harmony with nature without greed or destruction. To freely share empirical knowledge with education, education, education! And that's just the beginning.
If these thing are taught from birth, there would be no child abuse which leads to many mental illnesses and destructive behaviors. There would be no need or desire for wanting to have more than your neighbor but would foster the desire to assist whenever possible. There would be no habitat destruction but willingness to replace what you take away. People would be educated enough to see things as reality instead of the need to create imaginary beings and supernatural events, an unexplained event would simply be an opportunity for further education to explain it.
What humanity needs is a new way to think. War, violence, hatred, greed and diviseness should never be an option or solution.

..I think human nature itself is flawed, and though I wish it would, I don't think education would solve the deep flaws of human nature.. though, likely, within reason, it couldn't hurt!! Of course then there is the likely 'debate' over which ethics should be taught.. or what behaviors are truly harmonious and non harming.. Then of course we have the most devout of all philosophies.. so the debates would rage on and on.. And also to be educated to see things as reality, would depend on how far or deep you look at said reality.. Things once thought miraculous or mystical once, are now understood as natural laws.. Can we say now we understand all natural law and there is nothing not yet explained or understood.. Everything man builds comes about because someone envisioned it. And much of it wasn't reality at the time.

I think word without God was incomplete. So different people of the world fulfilled this need by creating a for themselves. They started warship. And still they are performing the same practice. But much of the religious rules have been changed by religious leaders till now. When the Adam was created; angel had asked the god that he, the Adam and his sons and daughters will become terrorist. They will spread terrorism on the earth. They will destroy the peace of world. But God replied them that they know nothing. It means that this is a secret of God that the nations are fighting and they are causing terrorism on the planet earth. We know nothing about this secret of his mighty God. So we should keep quite and should not discuss the topic, I think.

It would be impossible for the world to be without 'religion'. Even in the mainly 'irreligious' west, people worship 'mammon'. Up to the global credit crunch, many would think nothing of going along to their local shopping mall/ shopping centre/ high street/ main street (you get the idea) and splurging a load of cash on some things useful and plenty of things not! On a regular basis. Even the design of the more upmarket stores, speaks of a religion of 'shopping'.
So, even if we were to start from today, with no 'religion', humankind would soon invent one. We have a vacuum, within all of us, that hungers to be filled with 'belief' or 'purpose for life'. I tend to go with a combination of new age, pagan and Buddhist beliefs, not having a fundamentalist take on any of these. Certainly not to the extent that I would feel like becoming a "freedom fighter" for these beliefs!
As a matter of interest, choudhary, what do you think of the 2012 ideal, when most everything ascends to the fifth dimension?
Have a great day, you all, anyway.

I don't think doing away with religion would necessarily make this a better world. There have been many conflicts that have arisen over things other than religion, like politics and even sporting events. The thing that makes the difference in this world is what god do you serve? Do you follow a god that teaches "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you," or do you follow a god that teaches "Do unto others before they do it to you?"

Religion is just one thing some people fight about (usually by putting down in some way or another, saying the world would be better off.. etc). It's human nature. If no one ever thought about the deep things in life and we all just concentrated on daily affairs and buying and selling.. I still don't think there would be any shortage of human foibles, fighting, nor wars..

I think you have a great point. Many battles and tragedies are related to religon. I don't think religon itself is the problem, just that there are fanatics that take it too far. If people could just keep thier beliefs to themselves and learn restraint, we'd be ok.

I think I have different idea with you, the religion NEVER teach its believer to do bad habit or behavior. The terrorists who killed everyone and said that it's true based on their religion are very FOOL/STUPID person who feel that they are smart enough to understand their religion!!!! Instead, religion are one of the best way which deliver us to be good human & know what peace, love & humanity are. If we know well about our religion & practice it correctly, I guarantee that the world will be more peace & be very nice beautiful place to live in. :D

First remember God has little or nothing to do with religion, religion is about money and power under the guise of love and happiness. God is there and there are always teachers in the world to lead us to him, but these who preach fear and hate
are not them. As for terrorism, this is what revolutionaries are called before history gets it straight. Just a few thoughts

Our world may survive without religion but without God it is impossible. Because God is sending us our daily needs like sunshine in the morning, rain for the farmer, moon & stars to brighten the dark sky. Some people don't believe GOD but He is first in everything.
Our world must have love to continue living and love came from God. Religion is not important as much as believing God. But finding the truth involve true religion.
You want to know about our old world, religion, god and God. You may read "Alpha and Omega Book" by Ellen G. White. You may find something new. learn something old. Or some surprises.
Where you can get this book? www.leomermarie.sulit.com.ph
God bless you.
