When do you think it's time to leave the parental home?

I've left home when I finished high school. I got a job in a different town and paid my rent there. I thought it's time to make it on my own.
I have friends that are about 26-28 years old and still live with mom and dad because they're too afraid of letting go the parental house.
How much do you let your parents interfere with your life? Why do you do it?

The most common time is 18-19 years of age with college. The longer they stay at home the harder the break will be. It is a hard time in both the child and the parents life. My situation is a bit different because I have a daughter with mental illness and learning discibilities. But, the sooner the better and easier for all involved.

Hello Celticeagle.
I agree with you, 18-19 years is the best age to go on your own way. I'm sorry to hear about your daughter.
It's somehow weird and funny at the same time how some healthy young people hand on to their parents. The fear of going on a different path is too strong and that's what makes them stay home with mom and dad. It's sad when they have a partner and they want to still live with mom and dad.
