Crazy?????

I had something happen a few nights ago, that I just can't shake off or explain as being 'nothing'. I had just went to bed, and not even close to being asleep, I was lying in bed.. enjoying the quiet time to think.. thinking of all the things that I needed to get done for the holidays.. Like most women do, I was making a mental list of things that HAD to be done. I was lying on my side, with my head half buried in my pillow when I heard someone, or something, whisper VERY LOUD in my left ear (that was buried in the pillow) they whispered my name so loud that it actually made my ear tingle and I could even feel the warmth of their breath on my ear. The voice sounded so urgent and so loud that it startled me (to say the least!) My first thought was to get up and check my children or look for something that could be wrong. I got up and checked everything from the children, the doors, the stove.. everything! I couldn't find anything wrong so I went back to bed. I know what they say about people who hear voices, and I was close to thinking that might be the only explanation that I had. I know that many people (if not all) have heard whispers just as they are drifting off to sleep. those are often very lite and distant.. this was NOTHING like that! This was unlike anything I've ever experienced before! Still, I dismissed it as stress or a panic attack.. and never mentioned it to anyone. Thinking, the last thing that my family needed to hear was that I've lost my mind! lol! Two nights later, I am sitting in my living room reading my email in the wee hours of the morning, like I do often, since it's the only quiet time in my house. When I can actually understand what I'm reading without music blaring from my teenager's room! (I have 3! lol!) And my husband walks through on his way to check the kids, and I watch him walk over and check the door, as he made his way to the kitchen and back through again! It is so unlike him to get up and walk through, He is a very sound sleeper and once he is in bed, he stays! I asked him if he was OK, and he assured me that everything was fine as he made his way back to bed... The next day I commented on how odd it was to see him up and wandering around at 3 am. I asked him what he was looking for, and he told me that he was sound asleep and heard someone LOUDLY whisper his name.. TWICE! He explained how loud the voice was and how it sounded urgent and how he felt that, maybe, he needed to get up and check everything (just like I had done!) The oddest thing is... the voice called my husband by his FIRST name! No one has ever called him by his first name, he has always went by his middle name.. ALWAYS! In fact, not many people even know his first name! lol! Just as I had dismissed my experience as being stress or perhaps being on the brink of "crazy".. He had the same thing happen too! So if I am crazy, does that make him crazy too? I have wrecked my brain trying to find a reasonable explanation.. and I come up with NOTHING. And still days later, I feel like something needed my attention and when I obviously missed whatever it was.. My husband was called upon, by the same voice with the same urgency. What or WHO was this? WHAT was so urgent? And most importantly, WHY?? Both (my husband and I) can't be crazy at the same time! Can we? :)

It's one thing for it to happen to you but your husband too is another thing. I wonder if soneone that may have passed (who would know his first name), might be trying to get your attention. I used to have something lke that happen to me. Just as I was falling to sleep someone would yell, "HEY" thats it. It happened over and over, not every night, sometimes not for months. Then it would happen again. It hasn't happened since I lost my home in June. Maybe it had something to do with the house I lived in for 29 years.

WOW! it does sound as though your home had a connection in your case! I'm glad to hear that it has stopped, because it truly scares the wits out of you when something like that happens.

That's for sure. It made my whole body jump. It was very unnerving to say the leaset. When My kids were home I would go check them in case they had yelled out. First I would listen to see if anyone was really yelling at me.

I've read your story and I had to admit that I got goosebumps. Yeah, sometimes, I do hear voices especially at the brink of sleep. I could even try imagine a particular person and how his voice would sound like, and I start hearing it. Well, not ACTUALLY hearing it but imagining that I'm hearing it. But your case is quite different, though. Somehow scary in nature. I hope it's only a practical joke being played on you. And I hope it won't end up as a BAD one after it has scared your wits out of you. I guess you better investigate first before concluding that it could be something paranormal. Well, I mean, there are supernatural beings that we'll never know of but naturally we try to be rational everytime...find explanations for things that are weird. But then that thing with your husband walking through a room and denying having done such the next morning,,,,that's quite surprising too. I mean you aren't just hearing, you're also seeing! Has your husband been "seeing" too? If yes, then perhaps that's the time to really be certain you aren't going nuts. But whatever it is, I think you should observe a little bit more. The similarity of you and your husband's encounter might just be coincidence. I've experienced that one too. I had the same dream as my brother's and we both just freaked out when he said, hey I dreamt of this. And I went, "Me too". And he dreamt of that and I again said, "Me too!" And we just went...aaahhhhhh! Well, you can imagine the scene right? My point is, even if it does sound weird, or supernatural, or scary, or are-you-afraid-of-the-dark type, trusting science(at first, at least) won't hurt. What do you think?

There is no way that someone could pull a prank like this... I was laying on the ear that heard the voice and I felt the warmth of their breath as well. physically it would be impossible to whisper into an ear that is buried in a pillow (I would think)... the person would have to be underneath me and against my ear to project the same effect. in which case, I would have most definitely known that someone was there... before they even spoke. Scientifically, I think that I can rule out insanity or some physical problem since I was NOT the only one who had this happen... I AM looking for a reasonable explanation to explain this as something other than a paranormal experience... Because of all the things that it could be, I REALLY don't want it to be of a ghostly nature. Thanks for you input :)

Actually, this phenomenon is well documented. Including with Mythbusters. It is great. Basically, when a person is really tired and is coming close to falling asleep, the brain misinterprets this. You see, sleep and comas are very close to each other. So the body, in order to save itself, does this. This from a woman that lives in a haunted house. LOL

True! I've heard of that!.. EXCEPT, as I mentioned.. I had just went to bed (I had only been in bed about 2 minutes) and wasn't even close to being asleep. I was wide awake :) My husband was sound (and I mean, VERY SOUND) asleep when he got awoke up by this voice.

Yes. That is common in this life-saving phenomenon. We as humans have learned to adapt to our surroundings and such. While you may not be aware of exactly how tired you are, your body and brain does. :)

I totally agree with you. This could also be one of the reason. Along with all that you do, pls check your close family members, who know your husband's first name and who is quite close to both of you.

Probably not. It sounds to me like you have a haunting. I'm not joking or laughing at you, I'm serious. Do you work in the afternoon? If not, watch the Discovery channel at 2pm. There's a series called "A haunting." It starts at 2 and they show a couple episodes back to back. These are true stories that the people who went through it tell. Their stories are recreated and they tell the exact story that you're telling. And it usually starts with one person and again, they feel they can't tell anyone because they will think they're crazy. And at times, because what they go through is much worse than what you are going through, the other person does think they're either losing it or over-reacting to some noises. It's really sad sometimes when kids are the ones that's going through it and the parents don't believe them.

I love that show! I watch it every time I happen to be around to see it :) I suppose ANY house (even a new one) can be haunted... I've just never had anything happen in this house before.. since we moved in 19 years ago.

That is really strange and no I do not think that you are crazy not if you have both had your names spoken. Obviously something or someone is trying to make contact with you, that is if you believe in that sort of thing of course. I am not sure I do but I have had similar experiences to yours and so it is entirely possible there is something out there and it may be trying to contact you to let you know they are there. Very strange!

I have heard voices and even loud ones when falling asleep, but I have just passed it off as my mind playing tricks. It is odd that you and your husband would have the same thing happen so close together, but not impossible.
