How to attract responses to your discussions

What kind of discussions do you like to respond to? I have been noticing that the discussions that seem to have little importance are the ones that get the most responses. The discussions that deal with some intellectual matter get few or no responses. What does that say about the intelligence of us that frequent this forum?

I am not sure about 'intelligence' but it certainly has something to do with people's command of English. Would it be wicked to quote (or misquote) StarTrek and say "There is life in MyLot, but not as we know it, Jim."

Finally, I have found another trekkie. I think we should have our own category. Thanks for actually understanding what I was trying to say. Sometimes I think people read to fast and miss the meaning of what's being said.

I have to say that I'm not an avid trekkie, I just loved the older series (as well as Red Dwarf, of course). I don't watch much TV at all these days.

Most people come to mylot to relax, have light discussion. That's why people tend to response to discussions that are light and doesn't need much thinking.

Everyone is entitled to relax the way they see fit. Personally, though, I joined mylot to expand my mind and to exercise my thinking abilities. Practicing my writing and typing skills is a bonus too. If anybody shares my ideas lets become friends so we will be notified when we each start good discussions.

Well, I have commented on many intelligent discussions that have had alot of replies. Maybe you aren't looking in the right interests here on MyLot for the intelligent discussions. That or you need to hook up with my friends here on MyLot. I see you don't have to many and your post count is pretty low.

I tend to read alot more than I comment or create discussions as well. I think that is why I tend to leave lenghthier comments to other members discussion. It helps with earnings as well the longer your comments are.

I'm working on the friends list. I didn't start out bugging everyone to be my friend to start with because I didn't want to seem pushy. I've only been doing this for less than a month and I'm still working out how to make more posts. I spend time to try to find topics that I know something about or that I can offer some help usually. If I'm not careful I catch myself spending all my time reading instead of typing. Perhaps you would share which categories I should be looking in. Thank you so much for your advise. That was what I was looking for.

The fact that a discussion receives a great number of responses does not make it a quality post in my opinion. The more freinds you have the greater the chances to receive a greater number of responses but that is not a guarantee.

I agree with you completely, but you've got to admit it is gratifying to receive several pages of comments for a discussion that you have started.

What I can say is depend on the topic that would like to answer by the reader or reader's answer only the topic that can help their needs. Like me most of the topic i would like to response was helpful to me and the others. Saying that topics with sense. Even it was just light discussion sometimes we can get from them a little knowledge. For me the most important is to share my thought, help and give advice if needed, response to their discussions with all my sincerity.

I am also interested in topics where knowledge that I may have can be of help to others. I also enjoy discussions that teach me things I did not know. It is my firm belief that when we stop learning we start dying. I won't ever know everything but that won't stop me from trying to learn more.
