This is why I don't watch the news anymore. I just got this alert from a friend when I signed into Myspace. I found the link on a local News website and am now in tears after reading it.
An 18 year old mom and her 15 year old boyfriend are being charged with the murder of their 20 month old daughter. Not only did they leave the baby home alone all day while they went to school, they also beat her whenever she had a potty training accident. The day of her death she was beaten for over an hour, then the parents left for school. Reports say she died sometime during the day.
Read the article here, but I warn you, it's heartbreaking.
http://www.wtvh.com/home/related/34891569.html
Now from what I understand the 15 year old is going to be tried in juvenile court, and serve a maximum of 4 years. The mom will probably serve an adult sentance.
What on Earth is wrong with people today? How could this have happened? And why would nobody realize this child was alone all day, and call child services or the police and have the child removed from the home, where she might still be alive and happy today. I would love to get my hands on these 2 and show them what that baby felt like. I hope they get what they deserve!

Wow! This is extremely sad and heart breaking. With both parents showing up for school I;m surprised that none was checking to see if anyone was taking care of the baby. I can not believe that something like this happened especially considering it could have easily been prevented. I'm just surprised that none heard or saw anything suspicious and then either called the police or child services!

That is what surprises me too. Someone had to know, but it appears nobody cared. And that's what makes it worse. A good person who sees evil and does nothing, is just as bad as the ones who are doing the evil.

My thoughts exactly ... if you see something bad going on and don't do anything about it you are no better yourself!

Wow. I don't even know what to say to that. I just can't imagine. The sad thing is, someone had to have known atleast that they were leaving her home alone like that. I'm willing to bet someone knew. We had a case where a dad got charged for abusing his kid. Some of the things included putting hot sauce in his mouth and putting his pet snake around the kids neck and letting it squeeze. He showed people this bragging to his friends about stuff he does to the kid. Not one person came forward to stop him.

This wasn't for doing something bad. i can see putting hot sauce in the mouth for swearing. He was doing it just to torture the kid.

That's a shame. I personally have used hot sauce on my oldest once or twice in his lifetime. It was for something like spitting or swearing. He was warned and warned. One day he spit on the cat so I put a drop of hot sauce on his tongue. He stopped spitting after that.

I couldn't read the article, katsmeow. Just reading your discussion made me tear up.
How could this happen? I should read it to find out where they live. I know that in my area there are so many ways that these two teenager could have received assistance and this child would not have had to suffer all that it did. It is gut wrenching.

It's in central NY because it was on a local network. There's assistance here they could have gotten as well, but they would have had to ask for it. Yes it's gut wrenching. I normally avoid these types of stories, but this one was thrown at me and I was curious as to what exactly happened. It's so horribly sad.

That is just horrible. There is this thing called adoption. If you do not want to take care of your children then you give them up. You don't beat them. 20 months old and getting beat for not potty training correctly? That is too young to expect a child to use the potty on their own. I am surprised the child survived to be 20 months old with being left alone all day.

My daughter is 22 months old. She knows when she needs to go and could use the potty if she were not so stubborn. She has used it many times in the past, but since she is still so young I don't push it.
Yes, she did look well cared for in the picture, but anyone can wash their kid up nice for a picture.

Do you just leave her in diapers then, or use pull ups, or what? When I do the potty training thing he does not wear diapers at all. I go through a lot of laundry and have a lot of messes to clean up, but it usually doesn't take long to get the hang of it.

I'm surprised as well, the picture on the article looks as if she was a well cared for child, but obviously looks are decieving. My toddler is 2 and a half now and still not potty trained. I keep saying we're going to try it again, but I never get around to it.

It is not only heart breaking but it is also devastating. How can a human being do such a thing to a child. I am right there beside you not being able to understand how not a single sole knew that this child was not only being left home alone all the hours that she was but that she endured the beatings that she did. It is just impossible to believe that not a single person knew the sufferings this child was enduring at the hands of her parents.
Four years is not enough time to serve and with hope maybe there will be a way to try this 15 year old father as an adult.
I had a cousin who served time in prison and one thing I will always remember him telling me is that prisoners do not like other prisoners that have hurt children in any way. Prisoners somehow learn of the prisoners coming to prison that are there because of harm they have caused to a child and those prisoners always get what they deserve for what they did.

I have heard the rumor that child molesters were beat up a lot in prison. I've never known anyone in prison so I wouldn't know forsure, I do hope he gets what he deserves though, one way or another.

My cousin told me many stories of the things that went on in prison and my hope is that these two people get what they deserve once they have entered into the system as they will be hated as much on the inside as they are on the outside for what they did to this precious little girl.

So much of this is going on, and it is just sickening. I think they should really throw the book at them. I cannot believe that no one knew what was going on in that home.

Being a mother myself, I can't even come close to understanding the mind set of anyone who would hurt a child.. much less their own! I hate reading stuff like that! it breaks my heart into...
Why didn't anyone do anything? sadly, we live in a world that really just totally stopped caring! they would rather not get involved for whatever reason.
As for child services.. I have heard of so many cases that go unattended by them, they have so many cases of this kind that perhaps they can't stay on top of the demand. I don't really know.
It's so sad!

What an appalling waste of three young lives. I just can't work out how something like that can happen. Surely if the father was just 15 and therefore a minor himself, someone should have had a responsibility for watching over the family? How can noone realise that a little girl is being left on her own day after day and abused in such a terrible way? Sometimes I think that the world is a terrible, terrible place.

I have heard and read lots of horror stories about your parents abusing and killing their children. Some of them even left their babies to die at a dumpster, bus stops and many other places where babies should not be...
I wonder what were they thinking when they were making love? Haven't they heard of contraceptives before? Or these people are just plain ignorance and could not careless about other things except for themselves and their own pleasures... So when a baby came out, that was what they did to the baby!
It is sad that the juvenile law over there is too lenient. That boy should be kept for life there and the same goes to the mother! These people do not deserve a place among us as they are worse than animals...
Cheers!

I agree, and these are very young kids who had no business trying to raise a child to begin with. Unfortunatly it's a world wide epidemic.

not only does it upset me, but it pisses me off. did these kids not have parents of their own? like you said, did noone know about this baby and what was happening. this world scares me so bad. im sorry to say this, but they need to be beat and treated just like this small child so they can see what they did. the only thing that makes me feel better is that i know this baby was a child of god and is in heaven right now all better and happy and loved. the more i think about them, the madder i get. this is truely a sad, sad situation.

thats dreadful, i cant understand why people do things like this. It just shows that young parents dont have the maturity to look after children these days. This doesnt make it sound good for the authoritys, i mean why didnt they visit the child regulary surely they should visit them on a regular basis as these things can keep on happening.

That is awful. It makes me nauseous when I hear of cases like this. I would gladly take in any child somebody does not want.I tried for years to have another and couldn't. So, when I hear about this, it drives me nuts. You are not alone.

Have you ever thought of being a foster parent? My in laws did that before they adopted hubby and his sister. His sister was a foster child they ended up adopting.
You could give an abused, neglected, or unwanted child a loving caring home, and while fostering the state would pay you a small bit to help with the financial aspect of raising the child.

The is just Horrible. I read the whole thing. They beat her so bad that blood was on the walls and other places.. These People should not be allowed to reproduce ever again.
She was still a baby. Their demands on her were unrealistic.
I sure hope that he gets more then 4 years. He is old enough to know that the baby was defenseless.
I can't believe that a 15 year was not living at his parents house, but was allowed to live with a girl friend. Seems to me that folks look at things differently when the younger one is female.

We don't know the situation, that's the problem. Perhaps he had run away from home, maybe his parents didn't realize he was living with his girlfriend.
I'm wondering how the 2 afforded their own place. The article said nothing about either of them having a job, just that they both went to school. Rent is expensive. Even if all you get is a one room studio it's still over $300 a month. Where were they getting the money? Or were they living with someone, like her parents or his. If that is the case, then there are more people who belong in jail than just the teens.

There are several people to blame here. Where are the grandparents? I doubt these high school kids are living on their own and if so then how are they paying for it? Neighbors??? How could they not hear a kid being beaten like that? The father needs to be tried as an adult. That is crazy that they are trying him as a juvenile.

I also wondered how they could afford to live on their own, I doubt that they were living alone. They probably had a roommate who worked, or lived with working parents. Who knows, the story doesn't really give enough details, only the details of the abuse which I really didn't want to know that much. It hurts too much.

This is really heartbreaking and very upsetting. It seems they didn't even try to take care of this child. I feel if you can't take care of your child and have to leave it alone, you should ask someone for help. And beating a child for not potty traing correctly is uncalled for. I have a 3 year old grandaughter this is not full time potty trained. I get upset but I don't get upset with her. She was potty trained and then she started having accidents and now they are not so frequent. I try to have a lot of patience with her. I would never think of hurting her because of it. I am sorry to hear about this horrible thing.

I have a 2 and half year old. We tried potty training a few months ago, tried it for like a month. He just wasn't getting it, and after a month of trying and him not getting it, I was getting a little frustrated. I ended up giving up and putting him back in diapers instead of continuing to be frustrated. It was a better choice for both of us.
We'll be giving it another shot pretty soon, whenever I get around to it.

A good question would be "WHERE ON EARTH were the GRANDPARENTS!?"
Seriously, your kids had a kid, and you just let them live alone?? If both parents didn't have parents at the least there are some relatives that would care enough about an innocent child... like come ON. Both should be facing 1st degree murder. 15 or 18 years old both should face adult sentencing because if he was old enough to have a kid and old enough to be Mr. Tough Guy with the poor innocent baby girl, then he is old enough to face adult sentencing.
I to would love to get my hands on the heartless duo. If they didnt want the baby (who by the way was beautiful from what i saw on the site) they should have given her up for adoption or gave custody to someone else till they felt ready to be parents. These two should go through sterilization surgeries so they never have kids again.
I think that way people can rest easy knowing at least two child murderers wont have another child that will suffer the same fate as this poor defenseless baby =(

Yes, totally agree! Sterilization surgery should be mandatory for anyone who abuses a child. At least another sole would be saved from dealing with that horrendous abuse.

I once took 3 months off and didn't watch any news, didn't listen to any radio, and lived on my bike traveling the country and talking to peopls. I found that I had a much brighter view of people.
All my friends though I would get killed two or three times on the trip, but what I found is that on average, people are a lot better than we think if we watch the news.
There are crazy people, but there are a lot more great people out there.

I always wonder how people can see so much good in others when all we ever hear about is the bad, but I guess that's how, they avoid the bad. They don't watch news or listen to the radio. I should try that, because sometimes people just make me sick, and I start to think there can't be any good people left in this world.

Just remember that for every one worthless person who hits his own child so hard his eyes pop out, there are thousands who didn't, but the masses who are by enlarge good people never make the news. All you hear about is the crime.
