Does The Nintendo Wii Fit really make you lose weight?

I'm too lazy to work out, but I love video games. I was wondering if any of you who have experience playing wii would tell me if the sport games or the wii fit is really a good option for lazy people like me to get our butts off the sofa and work out a little.

WiiFit and WiiSports are both certainly better than nothing, but you still need to be able to self-motivate. You can get by with minimal effort, so they really don't work unless you are willing to put in the effort. I have been using a WiiFit for about 3.5 months and have lost almost 10 pounds, but it was in conjunction with the start of a college varsity athletic season. I am not sure how much credit goes to the WiiFit itself. A few specifics about the WiiFit: The balance games are fun, but not very helpful in terms of increasing your heart rate. Aerobics are really good at getting your heart beating (I always work up a sweat with Rhythm Boxing). I haven't decided how I feel about the strength training exercises; I can do the motions, but the machine is a little picky about what it considers "good." The yoga was simple enough that I don't think it added to my overall fitness, but it was a nice stress reliever. The weight measurements are a little inconsistent, though; it asks you to estimate how heavy your clothes are to calculate your real weight, and this leads to a certain amount of inaccuracy. Most importantly: WiiFit is not a game, and it is not meant to be entertaining. If you can motivate yourself, I definitely recommend WiiFit and WiiSports; however, they will not make a lazy person un-lazy.

When I played Wii tennis for the first time, I was sweating after 15 minutes. I was jumping to try to hit higher balls heh. But I later found out that you don't have to move your whole body, just one hand. It depends on how you wanna play. You can sit on the sofa and bounce your hand a little or you can go all out and play it like a real tennis for better experience. Second one is more fun.

don't have a wii nor have i played with one. but it's a given.......anything that gets you moving and more active then you are at the present will have benefits. and of course it helps to watch what you eat as well.

I think it is. I got the wii fit and tried it out for 1 week and before the week was up I had logged 20 hours and lost 4 pounds. Maybe it is just me, but when I get a new video game I must beat it as soon as possible. This game was different though in consideration the goal was to lose weight. You way yourself and it keeps track of your weight loss and gains. I just had to beat all my friends and family by doing more hours. After a while, however, (like week 2) I found the game to get kind of boring. Plus, the wii fit does not have too great weight loss exercises. If you want a fun game where you can sufficiently lose weight for a long period of time then I recommend the "Outdoor Sports Challenge" for the wii. Way more intense! There you actually sprint, jump, and do a variety of moves that helps you lose weight. I have played this game for two months and still think that it is an awesome and fun game. Hope I helped you out. It is true these working out based video games turn the average "lazy gamer" into a fitness champ.
