Okay, I was talking to my mom today and she told me that her ex-coworker's son had a baby with Shaken Baby Syndrome. The baby is blind and cannot talk or move, and I'm a bit upset about the subject. Who would have the nerve to shake their baby until they are impaired or disabled? Are they just so stressed that they take it out on a baby? I can see babies being a source of stress, but shaking the baby will only make things worse... I just want to know. Why one earth would someone even consider it??? Is it because they aren't aware that it can actually damage the baby or is it because they are tired of hearing the baby cry and they are taking it out on the baby him(her)self?

That is just sad to hear that there are innocent babies out there becoming a victim of this. I guess there are just lots of irresponsible parents or caregivers around us. I just hope the parents or whoever is responsible for this would be punished accordingly.

If a baby is diagnosed with Shaken Baby Syndrome, then the parents are immediately investigated. The baby's mother (the baby I mentioned above) just got out of jail and is now on probation, but I think she should have been in jail for more than a few months :/ The father is innocent, though. He didn't shake the baby and almost cried when he found out that the mother shaked him.

Oh boy, very irresponsible mother it is. I hope the father can take good care of her and the mother should not be given a chance to care for the child.

That is just terrible. It hurts my heart to think about, since there is so much awareness and yet it still happens. I was made to watch a video on it before I left the hospital, and I cried my eyes out.

It somewhat hurts me too... I don't know this baby, but it saddens me to hear that this could have been prevented if the mother didn't shake him while she was pregnant. She just got out of jail for it and is now on probation, but I think she should have been in jail for longer than a few months...

the caregiver may suffer caregiver burden that she projects to the baby by shaking it. vigorous shaking results to hemorrhage of the retina thus making the baby blind. the caregiver may not know how to handle the stress that she even projects it to a small baby. it is so unfortunate for the baby to be blind with the carers action.

It seems that a lot of people aren't aware that shaking your baby can cause brain damage. Or if they are aware of it they believe it won't happen to them. The truth is that you don't have to shake an infant very hard for it to cause damage. With all the problems that children face growing up in this harsh world it breaks my heart to know that some don't even get a fighting chance.

Yes it is done out of stress by a grown adult who cant control themselves,it takes a matter of seconds to cause a lifetime of damage, shaking causes the brain cells to tear causing hemeraqes and also bleeding behind the eyes, alot of babies dont make it,luckily mine did,he was shaken at 15 wks old by his dad, this was almost 19months ago now and we still havnt had the trial,it starts on 2nd feb. My son was left brain damaged and blind,he'll be 2 on the 3rd of feb and behind with what he should be doing at this age,he amazes me everyday and is my little miracle!
