When should best response be selected?

When you go to choose the best response, you want to choose the person who best responds to your discussion. If you ask a question, then you would want to mark the person who in your mind, gave the best response. Sometimes it is hard to choose. At that point, you will need to use a process of elimination. It may be easier to do it that way. Some people give a little more detail, even though the answer may be similar. I usually wait when I have something to compare something to then I choose the one I like. I also thank them for their comments. That's my own little way of making them feel special and that I took time out to read their comments.

You should choose a post as a 'best response', when the answer for your question is satisfied. I believe whenever we start a discussion, we would be expecting some answers from other users or an opinion about something. As far as your question goes, if all the requirements of your question gets satisfied by 'a post', then I think you can mark it as a best response. As far as an opinion goes, if you feel that a particular post has given his/her best opinion honestly, then you can choose it as a best response.

Sometimes I wait until the comments quit coming in but sometimes a comment is so good right at the beginning that I can't imagine anyone doing better. When that happens I mark that comment right away. I do take the time to respond to each comment. Sometimes it is difficult to think of something original to say to each one but I believe that each person who took the time to comment on my discussion deserves more than just a thank you.
