schooling in your country?

Philippines

In the Philippines (and fellow Filipinos, please correct or add if necessary), we have: 6 years of elementary schooling (Grade 1 to Grade 6) 4 years of high school (First Year to Fourth Year) 4 years of college (First Year to Fourth Year) Medium of instruction: English It's the parents who usually shoulder the expenses for these. Some go on to higher levels of education like medicine and law which take 4-5 years more, others take masteral and doctoral studies which take about two years. Now I guess educational systems are similar in other countries, except maybe for the terminologies? Like when I come across the term "middle school" I have no idea what it is, I suppose it's high school? Please share here how the education is structured in your country?

In our country, children usually enter Grade 1 at around 6 or 7 years old. How about in Turkey? 6 years for medicine in Turkey. Would that include the four years of university after high school? Here the medical course involves the 4-year college (pre-medicine) course, and then 4 years of medicine proper, another 1 year of internship (again, fellow Filipinos, kindly correct if I'm off with the number of years, thanks.)

yeah, like the same here when children are 7 years, they go to primary school.primary school continues totaly 8 years.I think it is quite long because in the most countries, primary schools dont need so much years. to be a doctor, here, a student must be in education 18 or 19 years including university time..i hope it is clear. ;)

Yes, that's true about some schools imposing another year (Grade 7) after Grade 6. There's also preparatory school, nursery school and kindergarten school before Grade 1. I'm just not sure if these are required by the Department of Education? Thanks for the additional info. :) I forgot to put them in, because I went straight to Grade 1.

here in the uk, children start primary school at 4 and a half to 5 years old. leave primary at 11 and go to secondary school until 16. it is then a choice to go on to sixth form or college. before the age of 4 if parents want their children to, they can go to nurseries or pre-school classes.

So your primary school is 6, 7 years, secondary shool 5 years? You start early at 4 and a half! We do have prep school, nursery school and kindergarten school (for kids aged 3 to 5 years old) but I think they are not compulsory.

Yes Prep school (or kindergarten) is not compulsory. But like in the UK children may go to school when they are 3. Their formal education just starts when they are 7 years old or so.

I think you missed out Kindergarten, Nursery and Prep school before Elementary. Kids these days start at around 4 years old [if you're financially capable of doing so]. There are also college courses that are longer than 4 years [Engineering courses, for that matter.

Hi YoreTiller! Yeah, I missed the pre-elementary years, but I don't think DepEd includes them in the compulsory formal education. Thanks for putting in about the Engineering courses - I thought about that but I wasn't sure. Happy mylotting!
