Would you want more than one Facebook account?

I read on a forum somewhere that most people have two Facebook accounts; one for work colleagues and one for other friends. Well, the way that they put it was more like "one is for sensible things, and one is for fun!" Well this surprised me a bit. I don't know of anybody with more than one account, (or maybe I do, but I'm just unaware of it...) I guess that some people have some embarrassing stuff on their regular account that they don't want their work colleagues to know about?! So, how many Facebook accounts do you have? And if you have more than one, how come? (I won't tell anyone, lol! I'm just interested ).

I have two FB accounts. Although one is just my old one that I no longer use. But yeah, it is weird that people have more than one like that.

It's nice to hear from someone who has two FB accounts! Even if it's just because one's an old one. I suppose even that could get confusing if friends try to make contact with the "old" version of you. . I've heard that it can be difficult to delete FB accounts though, so there are probably quite a lot of people with more than one account for this reason. Thanks for your answer.

Yes, I think there is a way, but it might involve emailing Facebook to ask them to do it. I think a while ago they wouldn't even let you do it that way! Crazy! If your old account's still active, I suppose you could log in and check to see if you've got any new friends there.

Yes, I was not really sure how to delete my old one so I just left it. I do often wonder if people add that one and not my new one though...

Hi Liquorice, I don't personally know anyone with more than one Facebook account. I have one and can't keep up with it and very rarely log in and my daughters and all their friends have one but ONE only. Huggles. Ellie :D

It was my girls that signed me up to Facebook and MySpace and many of their friends have also requested me as a friend. They are pretty open about what they do anyway and usually share the photos with me, even the ones that we wouldn't have dreamed sharing with our parents. LOL. Huggles. Ellie :D

That's nice that it was them who invited you onto these sites. And it's lovely that they're so open and happy to share what they're up to. It shows that they must trust you and have a good relationship with you.

Hi Ellie, thanks for your reply. I just have one as well, and I visit it a lot less than I used to. Most people I know also have one account (well, as far as I know!) Can I ask, are you Facebook friends with your kids? (Hmm, might post a discussion about this as it's quite interesting. Like I said above, a few people that I know are friends with their mum or dad, but they have plenty of photos etc.. of the kind which I wouldn't have wanted my mum to see!) Happy myLotting :)

haha~~ even if you don't tell anyone, but everyone in mylot will know! I understand why some people would like to have two facebook accounts. Sometimes when I am playing in facebook or spending time there, I do not really want my colleagues or my boss to know about it. That's why I always set those notification off or display status off. But, I don't think I want to get another facebook account, as it's a bit difficult to maintain. Also, most of my colleagues already know my Facebook account.

Yes, that's true, but myLotters are all very discreet, and they won't tell anyone.. I can see why you and a load of other people might not want work to know how much time you're spending on Facebook. Good idea to turn off the display statuses! I know that some workplaces have disabled Facebook on their computers. That would be bad. (Hopefully there's no such ban on myLot!) I agree that getting two accounts might get a bit confusing! Thanks for your answer :)

I personally would not want or need two accounts but it makes perfect sense to me. When you think about it a lot of people live a different life behind the monitor. You would not know that these people have more than one account because they would only give you access to the one that you fit best. If you are a colleague then you would get that address. If you were a friend or family you might get the other address. You may not want your co-workers to know that you are looking for love on the net. Generally don't we seperate the two? I mean usually your co-workers are not aware of all of the things that go on in your personal life, this it seems would be no different.

Yes, I suppose that some people might not want certain people to know everything about their lives. And I can see what you mean about not wanting work colleagues knowing that you're looking for love (or even maybe going for a job interview somewhere else, lol!) You're right, people do keep their work life and their personal lives separate to some extent. I would be worried about getting confused and inviting people to the wrong address!

I barely use the one I have, so a second one isn't necessary. But it is understandable how someone would use a seperate one for colleagues. My question is, if the more private profile is on the friends list of the not so private one, won't they figure it out?

Yes, I don't use it too much now, and would find having two a bit confusing! I suppose you'd have to ensure that you don't make friends with yourself , and make sure that you invite the right friends to the correct profile, (and not to both, otherwise people would see both versions of you in your friends' friends lists). Could be a risk..
