Garlic lowers serum cholesterol, especially the LDL component called "bad cholesterol," how it significantly and safely lowered blood pressure, how garlic improved circulation by reducing the "stickiness of the blood, it also helped arthritis and probably most important how garlic potentiates the human immune system. Onions may offer protection against cancer by inhibiting the growth of malignant tumors, may also help to prevent the inflammatory response that can lead to allergies and asthma. It also help to prevent heart attack and stroke by lowering cholesterol and blood pressure and preventing blood clots.

I use both. They go hand in hand to me. If we put in onions, then we should use garlic too. unless I'm making soup, then it's just onions for me. I hate chopping both though. Garlic is so tiny while onion makes me cry. I'd rather buy the pre-chopped ones hehe.

well nothing fixed really, it all depends on the recipe and how spicy we want to make it. As it is, non-vegetarian Indian food uses garlic, ginger and onion pastes quite liberally and I use these too, when I want a thick spicy tasty gravy.

We use alot of both. Mostly because there's rarely a shortage of cheap onions and garlic...and we love both anyway. Keeps us from getting ill alot, I imagine, along with how healhily we tend to eat.

I tend to use onions more than garlic, although I love both. I think part of it is because garlic can be a pain to peel and dice, where as onion is simple. But there is nothing better than garlic bread with the pasta. YUM!

HI
I love cooking. And without onions we cannot even think of cooking the dishes.Onionis compulsory for us.Yes its really good for health .They contain chemical compounds believed to have anti-inflammatory,anticholestrol,anticancer and anti-oxidant properties such as quercetin. It adds flavour to the food. And garlic is really good for heart and it is a natural antibiotic. So have daily onion and garlic.
Bye!!!!!!!

thanks for the information.
Filipinos love to use both garlic and onions in most of the foods that we cook. And I love there smell especially garlic. But here in scandinavian country, mostly, they dont use garlic for cooking or frying since the smell is not that easy to take off from everything sorrounding it. They even say that other person can still smell your breath with garlic eventhough you have eaten it the night before.

it's true that garlic and onion has it's own components in a way to keep us healthy. thanks for your healthy information! i remember my neighbor eating garlic because he has high blood pressure, he said it's good for hypertension. When i cook especially in sauteing, i always use both garlic and onion, they complement each other. no matter how bad they smell when they're raw, if you use it in cooking and smells the aroma of the food, you will only feel that you want to eat that food right away.

I actually like to use both onions and garlic in most dishes that I cook. That is pretty normal for a lot of Indian dishes. But if I had to choose I would probably go for onions as it has a stronger and richer flavour and therefore I might be choosing flavour over health benefits

Well, we don't really believe those, the only thing we believe in is proper diet and exercise.
Anyhow, as for the question which do I use when I cook? Well, most of the time, we use both. These are great for cleansing the meat or the fish, or the poultry from their odors. These is also great for stir frying and boiling of soups and other food.
I think basically, that's the core ingredient of any good cooking here in our area. But sad to say, they are becoming more and more expensive now-a-days. That's why I'm starting to plant them in my backyard, so that soon, I would no longer need to buy, instead I could only pick them from my yard.
=)
What do you use?
