At work we always format a Hard Disk if we are going to transfer a computer from one project to another. We are doing it to ensure that we deleted all files from one project as requirement from our clients in order not to leak any of their data. Do formatting will damage a Hard Disk? Happy Mylotting!

There is wrong ideas about formatting of hard disk. I will tell you the truth.... Basically formatting does not harm or damage the disk we used. It only on depends upon the period we use it. If we use more and more it performance will decrease. Let us take a example you use hard disk to save files of projects like drawings or something else. and other hand you use hard disk playing DVD,s and playing songs and working at the same time. Disk only damage to overusing it. Formatting a disk will simply remove all the data. Beside this there are two types of format mehtod. ONE is quick and second is normal. I recommend you to do normal method. Conclusion is disk damage only on depend upon us. Our method of use.

Thanks for the very meaty response. DO you think Normal format is better than using Quick Format?

yes.. Normal format is safe for hard disk. Because during this process data is removed smoothly.

It is not very good for you to be formating computer all the time all it does it damage the hard disk and when the hard disk is damaged it will cost you more. Why don't you parmanently delete the files or data you do not want on the systems, that is better than formatting all the time, ok.

ya formatting many times damages the harddisk, always try to delete files than format .In deleting ,only sectors relating to the files are wiped or made ZERO, but in format the sectors concerning to that whole partition is made zero , which is no use as even unused sectors are set to zero. And there is write limit to hardrive, you can check life of you harddisk using hddlife software, its available for download at hddlife.com.

Based on my experience, it will damage your hard disk if you format your hard disk more than 3 times. I have formatted my hard disk three times, and there is a bad sector at my hard disk. So sad.

Tell your clients that even if you format your HD, theres still a chance of recovering the data from it. so its nonsense to format the drive. if you dont believe me, then don't. but i've done this alot of times now.
