My friend and I share a plan. She says if we change the plan it will restart the contract but paying 170 a month split between us is ridiculous. Is it true though that it will restart? If so I am desperate to do it anyways.

I'm pretty sure if you change your cellphone plan that it will restart your contract. I know with my carrier it does. I don't think you have to restart a new 2 year contract though, I think you only have to sign a new 1 year contract. It probably would be cheaper to change it and sign a new contract. You should also be able to take your phone off of the plan and start your own plan without the friend.

Most of the service providers here in U.S. won't restart your contract simply by chaging your monthly plan... Since it sounds like you have "family plan", if one of you are to get a new phone, then yes, contract will restart... Basically, renewal of the contract is based on if they give you the discount towards the phone you have purchased... They have to make up for that discount so they make you sign up for new contract... Sometimes they automatically sign you up for another contract when you don't have to... Make sure when you call to change your plan, you tell them you don't want another contract... You just wanna finish one you're in off with different plan... If you're out of the contract & you like your service provider, you might wanna consider getting new phones out of the deal...
