Pardon Ramos and Compean

United States
December 3, 2008 1:43pm CST
Border agents Ramos and Compean have been in jail since 2007 for shooting a fleeing drug smuggler on the border with Mexico. I can't think of anybody on either side of the political isle, with the exception of those involved in the prosecution, who does not believe this was a miscarriage of justice. The president says he won't get involved because they haven't go through the process that would bring them up for pardon. However, he did provide pardons to members of the administration who were prosecuted for political reasons without them going through the process and these to Border Patrol cops are not all that different. The details of their prosecution and favors done by the prosecution to ensure their case show this was mostly a political prosecution. It's time to free these men before they can have their lives torn apart and years of their lives stolen the way other border agents have under similar circumstances. I have no doubt, that like many agents before them, these men will eventually be cleared; however, these other agents were cleared after years of unjust imprisonment, pain a destruction to their families that often ended in divorce and years lost with their children and the ruining of their reputations, lives and careers. There are many other things President Bush should and could do before leaving office and I discuss them in the article below but, I believe it is most important to rectify this injustice To read my other thoughts go here: http://hubpages.com/hub/Pardon-Ramos-and-Compean

I have to agree that these guys should be pardoned by Bush before he leaves office. I hope he does end up doing the right thing in this instance.

Pardoning Ramos and Compean needs to happen. I have looked at some of the people George W. Bush has pardon and I have found someone that people that have done much worse that these two border agents. Instead of pardoning a guy that sold narcotics over the phone pardon Ramos, Compean, and that forgotten man Scooter Libby.

It's funny how the more political the prosecution was the less likely it is that the president will get involved. I understand the desire not to be accused of giving pardons for political reasons. Freeing domestic terrorist because their friends supported your campaign has proven to be a poor choice. Freeing people who were prosecuted for political reasons and to gain political advantage is one of the main reasons the power of pardon was created. Such prosecution is unjust and should be overruled. Ramos and Compean, Libby and even members of congress, indicted to give an excuse for running them out of office then left in limbo because the charges were never viable to begin with. In fact, article 1 section 6 of the constitution was written specifically to prevent the law from being used as a tool to remove political opponents.

There is no excuse for him not to pardon them. I have supported Bush throughout his terms, but if I ever meet him personally the first question I would ask him would be why he didn't pardon them.

The single biggest fault I saw in the president I voted for twice is that he was far to friendly with the Mexican government. The things he has done to appease a government that openly advocates the reconquering of 4 US states they feel should belong to them are sickening.

This injustice really does need to come to an end. It doesn't take much time to let your voice be heard and could mean so much to these two good men and their families. The address and phone number for the White House are: 1600 Pennsylvania Ave NW Washington, DC 20500 (202) 456-1414 There's also a link for sending an email to President Bush in this article: http://ramos-compean.blogspot.com/2008/11/pardons-for-ramos-and-compean-are-under.html

Thanks for the intel. This is still a government of, for and by the people. When large numbers make a clear point even the most ardent politicians will change their stand to stay in office. Honest ones will stand for those they represent even if they don't have an office to protect anymore.
