Doctor's offices..what makes them so mean??

So I took my grandmother to her doctor's appointment this morning and I don't know what it is about all doctor's offices, but all the nurses and secretaries that work there are always so grumpy and mean to people. And after thinking about it, I've noticed this at pretty much every doctor's office I've been to. Maybe its because they are constantly dealing with sick people and whining people that they become just so bitter..in that case, why stick to a job that makes you that bitter right?? Has anyone else noticed this??

I think that these people working in the doctors' offices put up a wall because they deal with demanding people ALL day long. I don't think all of the employees INTEND to be mean, they just treat EVERYONE the same, whether they are dealing with demanding, mean, etc. people or not. It stinks for the people who are nice and would like the same in return. We just have to kill with kindness so we don't let them ruin our day! :)

Kill with kindness...definitely the best way to go! I agree, they do put up a wall for all the demanding people...and in a way I kind of feel bad for them with all those people, but then again they did choose this job and demanding people come with it :) thanks for your response!!

I have experienced both, grumpiness and very nice people, sometimes even in the same doctors office. Yes, with some people you have to wonder why they chose that profession in the first place. Sometimes it's just stress. I have learned that as long as I give them a nice smile and remain overly polite most of them eventually are nice, too. Some can't be helped. And as somebody else said, dealing with a lot of disease and frustration, some simply put up a wall of indifference. This way it doesn't get to them. Why stick to the job? I was told that nurses get paid quite well nowadays.
