My husband and I got a free movie pass that would have been used to go to see The Changeling, but I do not know if we will go to see it now. You see, someone here on mylot, gave away the whole plot, what happened in the end, and the conclusion so all the fun was taken out of it and it was done in great detail. Now the only other movie that we might see is that new James Bond movie. The fact is I just want the highlights from the movie, is it a happy ending? Who stars in it? What type of movie, not the whole thing done for those who will be unable to see it, either two years down the road when it gets on Tv, or will be unable to get it in the rental.
So I was wondering whether someone's detailed description of a movie, without the warning "Spoilers' made it so that now why bother to see the movie now since they already told you about it?

Not only would I be p*ssed if it were a film I was looking forward to seeing, it would end our friendship. All I need to know about the film is the title and a small , and I mean small part of the plot.In fact most trailers, especially the ones you see in the theater, are too long.In return, if I have seen a film you wanted to see, I will tell you how good or bad it was but I would Never, never give away plot.I would just make a date to either take you to see the film or wait until you have seen it and then we can discuss it.

Well everyone on myLot who read her discussion would not have needed to see the movie because she gave away the whole plot. I never give away the whole plot even if someone says that want to be sure if it is worth seeing. I will say "it is too violent." or "I would not let your kids see it, too much blood,"or "it is about a kid who pretends to be someone else"but that is all.

Well she gave away the ending and that is what hurt it for me. We rented the movie and loved it very much, but I would have liked it more if it had remained a mystery until we saw the ending ourselves.

What that woman went through because no one except that preacher and only a few would believe her no one should have.

I will still watch the movie because I am one that is asking all about a movie before I watch it. I like knowing what happens most times. So I won't miss it. I would still go you never know making even though it was in great detail maybe some details were missed and will make a nice surprise.

Well I did not ask about the movie. I just went to the interest watching movies here and found someone had started a discussion to find out if anyone had gone to see the new movie Changeling starring Angela Jolie. Of course, thinking it was a fantasy where Angela played a woman whose child was switched by fairies, I read the discussion and found the writer had given away the ending. I mean I am not stupid enough to go to someone and say tell me the whole plot of the movie and if I did, they would always leave out the ending or tell me to go see it myself or say "they will have it on dvds in a year's time.'"

Just give me the basic plot, but do not give the ending away. That is what she did. I mean it would have been classified as a true crime story if it had been made a different way. And it was as if the story was in Times or Newsweek or a paper most people could see on line and she had said "did you know they are making a movie about that skeleton they found in ---" or "the great grand father of so and so who wanted to find out about -- great great grand mother?" or something like that.

To me,it depends.Like twilight,I have read the novel before the movie was on.But I still wanna go to the cinema to see this movie. If you like this movie, you won't care about whether you have known the end or not.You can experience the atmophere there. And I always think it's much different to see a movie at home and in a moviehouse. And it's much different either to see a movie or read its book.Even if you have known the end,you are still curious about how they educe it.But if you dont like the movie,I think you even don't consider to watch it.

Well I have read books and have gone to see the movie, and I knew quite well that unless it was a Tv mini-series that ran for six to eight hours, the book and the movie were not the same. You would need to have for instance part one for two hours, part two for two hours more and show the whole book. I mean my husband has the whole Harry Potter series and he was able to point out what they had missed in the movies. But this mylotter told everything in the movie so that we knew what happened to the boy or what was assumed. (He might have gotten away, but maybe not.) so there was no mystery. She did not say she read the book The Changeling or the book on which The Changeling was based and gave us the name of the book so we cold go to our bookstore or local library, read it, and compare it to the movie. What she did was tell the most important parts and took away our curiosity.

Sometimes, the way in which people convey us the movie script makes us very eagre to watch the movie. I prefer to get review of my friends who has seen the movie before so that I avoid watching flop movies. It saves on Money too!

But do your friends give away the whole plot and the ending of the movie as well? I can understand if they said the actress acted like a wooden fish or the costumes were not 1920s but 2000s. And they had tv when there was no tv at that time and that would give an idea that the writer and producer had no idea what they were doing or it only got one star, but this mylotter went to the movie and wrote what was going to happen, what happened to the boy, etc. so that when we did see the movie, I knew exactly what happened. I did not need even to watch the movie.

oh my god that is so irritating...when some one comes to you and tells you everythign about a movie you want to see very badly.... i feel like wringing that persons neck and putting him up for drying int eh sun..... especially a suspence or a horror flick that you want to see and a friend tells you whats going to happen in the climax that makes me oh so mad..... i have many instances like these...there was a time when a movie had come out and it was a horror flick and my friend had already told me everything in that movie but i still decided to go and watch it and to my amazement nothing what he had said actually happened... so the next day i went up to him and asked him why he had played that prank on me and he actually told me that he did not like the movie and so did not want me to go and watch it ..... some excuse that was !!

She did not talk to me personally, but she was on myLot and of course, started the discussion if anyone had seen Changling. I expected her to see it was based on a true story, etc. but not to read the whole plot and the conclusiion. And she did not even say "if you are on my friend's list and cannot see the movie, just pm me if you cannot wait for the dvd." Anyone who read her discussion knew exactly what would happen.

I agree. I think warning should be given. I like a rough outline and whether the ending of good or not but I do not want to know the whole story.

We have to know enough to see if the movie is worth watching, but there are somethings we do not want to know and want to find out for ourselves. If it was not a good movie and recommended, we would not have watched it. I mean don't the previews that we see on the movie screen, on the net, or on Tv, enough to give us the information and do not the reviewers give enough info. for us to make up our minds?

I actually go watch a movie if the reviews say it's good
so if someone tells me the whole story, it does spoil it but I will still go watch it
of course then it also depends on who the actors are, what is it about and other things that make me curious about the movie in the first place

I will see the movie if it is good, but I would rather not know the ending. I really do not care about the actor unless the actor has a good reputation that he or she can really make one believe they are the actual person in the story. I also love mysteries, especially if they are true events. We did rent the movie and it was quite good. We might even had bought it or got it as a gift, but since my husband got als I have not been checking our dvd collection that much.

We saw the movie on Dvd and loved it. It was the type where it was based on a true story and if she had given part of the plot or if there had been a news story such as young man weeps over mother;s grave and we learn that he was searching for her while she was looking for him and they decided to make a movie of her search, then I would not mind. My husband got a book on audible about a Jewish resistance group and I heard the whole plot on iPOD, but I got him the movie because we wonder how different the movie is from the actual book. But this was the actual whole plot including the conclusion.

I do not think you would want a line by line description or not what is going to happen in the end, and all the scenes in the movie. I can understand if you bought a book and you wanted to see if the movie adhered to the book, but surely you would not want someone to tell what happened at the conclusion or the most important parts. That is what she did.

Everyone conclusion about a movie is not always the same. I would encourage you to go and watch the movie. Some times even when you watch a movie on doing it the second time you will see things that you don't remember seeing when it was watched the first time. Don't watch what was display here in MYLOT go and enjoy yourself.

Oh I watched the movie. We got it on Dvd, and the ending was exactly what she said it was.
If she stopped at the escape, then we could have found out ourselves or if we thought the boy who had been the changeling was in cahoots with the killer and was to keep parents for looking for their missing sons, I would have assumed that and been relieved that it was not so, but she told everything.

So what? How is that any different than those that read the book and then still go see the movie? Same idea. I have seen a movie on DVD that I saw in the movie theatre, it did not make it better or worse. And "knowing" about it is NOT the same as seeing it.

I maybe the only odd ball that actually wants to know or doesn't mind being told the entire plot or movie, before going to watch it. If I really enjoy the description, it makes me want to hurry to see a particular movie now. I don't usually go to the theater anymore. But if it is out on DVD, I'll probably wait to get out to get it. You see I receive free DVD rental codes every Monday, so I usually watch at least 8 to 10 new movies I haven't seen before.

Most people do not want to know the whole plot or at least the part that matters. We want to read the previews and make the wrong conclusions and then go to the movie and see that we were entirely wrong. We did watch the movie on Dvd, as it was based on a true story or was a true story but it did not happen in my city so I had no where to find out about it. I might get it on bluray, as I do have a couple of gift cards, because it was really that good.

I am more interested in the story. I love mysteries and also true stories especially if they are about the 2nd World War, or someone who escaped Communism, the Nazis, or other evil dictatorships. Besides even though I have my favorite actors, there are probably some movies that they have been in, that when someone says "Isn't that===?" they put on a disguise and pretend that they are not them because they were embarrassed to ever be in that movie.

Well, if I want to watch a movie of course I won't asked someone to tell me something about the movie because there's a possibility that she/he may tell me the whole story.. I will know it by my own so that I won't feel bad or disappointed.. Maybe, I'll asked some question like if the movie is worthy to watch.. But I won't ask him/her to tell me the whole story...

The trouble was that I did not ask this person about the movie. She wrote the discussion and asked if anyone had seen the movie Changling starring Angela Jolie and of course, I went to the discussion and expected her to say it was about a missing boy and his mother's efforts t find him, that there is a murderer in it, it was based on a true incident, and it also stars, etc. etc. and that would have satisfied me. But she went on in the discussion to give not only the synpnosis of the movie but the ending, etc. who was was, and what would going to happen.

It was a good movie. We rented it on DVd and loved it, but we knew what would happen next and it toned down the suspense. I sort of love the suspense.

I know the feeling. I hate it when that happens. I'd still watch the movie if it's a really good movie that I really wanted to watch. When I write about a movie here on myLot, I make sure that I put a spoiler warning so that anyone who'd read the post would know that there are spoilers and that they should stop reading if they haven't seen the movie yet. I guess the only thing we can do is rate them down and maybe send a report.

That would be a good idea. She did not even give a warning.
She just rambled on how much she enjoyed this movie Changling by Angela Jolie and since she loved the actress so much, just rambled. I could have done the same thing about a movie years ago by Gregory Peck , but i would not do that as he was one of my favorite actors. The trouble is if you like a certain actor, you forget and start giving away plots, etc.
