theists believe in gods
atheists believe in science
theists believe in paranormal, imaginary, irational things
atheists believe in what they see, in what can be proven
theists prove they are right by the phrases "because it exists" "don`t doubt the all mighty god" "you will burn in hell for not believing"
atheists prove they are right by bringing facts, experiments, logical
...
So i love being an atheist, and we shouldn`t be considered as a religion, i hate religions, religions control people, if atheism would have been a religion i wouldn`t be one right now. When people laugh at me because i`m an atheist i tell them i like things that can be proven, then if they continue i just ignore them

Yes, I too believe that religions control people, either through threats or fear, and people who are worried for either their life here or their future life are easy prey for the hunter. It's even funnier how a lot of people get angry and lose it if you refuse to be worried about your current or future, and then they start saying all sorts of crap about how you don't know anything, and you're going to hell, blah blah. If they've been there and come back, then they can tell me. Until then, it is just one other person talking about something they don't actually know.

To use the old cliche - "If atheism is a religion, then bald is a hair color." Having a belief about the supernatural doesn't necessarily make that belief a religion. You need a little more substance than that to have something qualify as a religion. Religions incorporate both beliefs and some kind of practice - be it moral or ritualistic. Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Muslims, Satanists, Shintoists, etc. - they all have certain practices to go alongside their beliefs. Theism, Agnosticism, polytheism, deism, and atheism are all just philosophies as to the nature of Gods. There's no practices, no ceremonies, or no set code of conduct that any of them have. There's really nothing religiuos about them.

Well I don’t know really. As far as fanatical following goes, atheists are in no way less vociferous than theist…so in that sense atheism can be a religion. But no religion has been able to show or give concrete evidence and reasoning behind the existence of god, its all very hypothetical and bases on beliefs. But atheists cite logical scientific proof of many incidents which are otherwise attributed to God and religion.

Science and research has been able to explain some things but some of these explanations are imperfect. The beleivers of god are questioning the non-existence of god by mocking these finds....
The reason is that many people are gets offended when something is said about their religion or belief and they assume that Atheists are not humans at all.Atheists also have rights, In secular country like our India every man is entitled to his own faith.Atheism is my faith and i also get offended by remarks of Theisists. So i think Atheism should be a organized religion and should have equal status as other religions.
thanx for your response sudipta...

Yes atheism should be considered a religion. It is a belief like all other religions so why not.

It is a religion, so is Voodoo. Why can't people just live & let live, believe how we choose? In my opinion, it's just another form of mind control, trying to make people conform to others ideas. It's also another thing people hide behind so that they can be judgemental & critical of others. I consider myself non religious, it doesn't mean that non believers are evil or bad people. Even President Obama has included non believers in his speeches. Learn to respect others beliefs or lack thereof....maybe everyone could learn from each other.

I myself am an atheist and beg to differ with your opinion. According to the American Heritage Dictionary Religion is: Belief in and reverence for a supernatural power or powers regarded as creator and governor of the universe. This does not follow your theory. Atheism is not only the belief that there is no god, it's that there is no heaven nor hell only the world we live in now. It is the lack of religion.

In our country the religious people like Christian clergy, Hindu sanyasins and others consider Atheists as antisocial elements and blame Atheists for destruction social and family values. As an atheist i cannot agree to them. Do you know any atheist who have conducted war and genocide in the name of religion??..Have you heard about any Atheist Terrorist groups???....All the terrorism in this world are conducted in label of major religions of the world.Be it hindu or muslim or christanity....So what i'm sujjesting is that governments should recognoze athiests as an organized religions and gives our right and to stop this bullying by the religious types..Once agin thnx for your response...

I suppose it could, if you want to look at it in those terms. Religion is actually a man-made thing, I'm not sure if various beliefs are actually man-made or not because you'd have to follow them all the way back to the source to see how and why they came about. This is a good question though, because despite what some people think, I am not an atheist. I do believe there is a God, but I don't believe all the surrounding crap that goes along with it, like God loves or hates specific people, that you must follow 3857699 rules, that you have to talk to people about your views, etc. Anyhow, I consider myself absent from religion, and I intend to stay that way. Believing there's a God does not mean I have to accept religion or adhere to anything religion states as important either.
