Many a times I feel, my children are wasting their time watching TV. I do not understand how to control them. Actually now a days children are sharp and getting more knowledge than what we are at their age. This is because, the opportunities they have today. But the actual problem is with TV.
Instead of watching good programs, they are getting addicted to movies, fighting scenes, crime oriented programs, If parents are absent, then hot hot programs.
In my childhood age ~ 85 - 90's, we had only one channel, and we used to view only good programs with all members of family. Other time, we used to read a "Good Book" or Activities, Playing with friends, singing, dancing, oh! good time pass. Now, children are becoming lethargic with 100+ channels and becoming impatience switching between one channel to other. In our days we feel shy watching adult oriented scene, even kiss scene. But now a days this is most common and children do not feel watching hot programs in front of parents. where we are going?
my observation is for most of the children
1. Children are getting addicted more and more with TV programs
2. They are getting interest only with fighting or romantic movies or MTV -music
3. They are not getting engaged with good things like reading a good book and other activities, or hobbies. ( The only hobby is viewing TV).
4. With the TV, studies are disturbing.
5. They are developing impatience and lethargy.vulnerable to crime
6. Even cartoons also, their liking is towards fighting or WWF
What do you feel and What about your Children. friends let's discuss on this topic

hi bhag!
well what i think is, the media, (tv, internet, music, etc) may have or may not have a negative influence to our children. i think as parents we should be role models and we should be there to guide our children. we should not rely on the television set to become nannies or role models for our kids. because when that happens, then our children's future will be disaster. they need to be guided on what to watch. and even in the schedule of watching. they should be disciplined and should not be able to watch tv whenever they just want to.
the issue here really is not control but being able to be responsible towards the children who are placed in our care.
take care and God bless you!

Hello bhag570,
In my household, the tv is an educational tool.
Through the Preschool Prep and Signing Time series, my daughter has learned colors, shapes, numbers, letters, sight-words and many beginning signs. She also has learned some Spanish and watches Dora, The Care Bears and other such cartoons that are worth her seeing.
I watch documentaries and sometimes she watches those with me.
We don't subscribe to television services, it's all video and DVD which means, no commercials!
Happy MyLotting!
