An interesting little quiz

I know that religion is very serious business for many people, but I ran into this interesting little quiz while going through my mailbox this morning. It asks you twenty questions about what you believe and how you feel about certain things (afterlife, moral issues and the like), and then it compares your beliefs to a whole list of religions and returns the ones that your beliefs match most closely.
I wasn't the least bit surprised to find that my beliefs most closely match "New Age" (like... 100%), Neo Paganism and Unitarian Universalism - but it did surprise me to see just how far away I was from my childhood religion.
You can find the quiz at http://www.beliefnet.com/Entertainment/Quizzes/BeliefOMatic.aspx Give it a try and see if there are any surprises in your beliefs.

Hmm well I am intrigued that I came out as Unitarian Universalism (100%), followed by Secular Humanism (99%)and then Neo-Pagan (97%). Most interesting. I have done this before and I think I came out as Secular Humanist.
I thought I was a neo pagan but it seems my belief in the deity is a little too weak to put that one on top. Quite interesting. I must say that I am pleased that the fundamental religions came out last. Catholic second last and Jehovah Witness last. Judaism, Islam and Christianity were just above them.

UU is very open and tolerant of many diverse beliefs. I found it interesting that the religion in which I was raised, Roman Catholicism, was second to last in the listing of religions that fit me.

I think we all develop our own thoughts and beliefs as we live our lives. I found it interesting that the three top belief systems that most closely match my own are exactly the three that I expected - and that I match above 95% in all three. It says a lot about how similar those belief systems must be, no?

Very interesting, I am ether an Orthodox Quaker, Hindu or a Mahayana Buddhist

That's an interesting combination. I wonder what beliefs the three systems have in common

1. Secular Humanism (100%)
2. Unitarian Universalism (93%)
I had done this test before, and got much the same result. Had I done it ten years ago Neo-Paganism would probably have topped or run second, instead of now 4th.

I think it's my strong belief that there is a spark of Divine in all of us that pushes Secular Humanism down to #7 on my list.

Hmmm.. I didn't know that Unitarian Universalism was so similar to New Age, haha.
Took the quiz, it says I'm 100% Orthodox Quaker. Which is pretty close. I didn't see Mennonite on there, but my number 2 was Mainline to liberal Christian Protestants. Maybe that includes Mennonites? Iunno. Interesting quiz though.

I'm not a practicing anything, but I always figured that a UU congregation is probably where I'd fit most comfortably. UU is open enough to encompass many beliefs, including my personal ones, without enforcing any type of mythology.

Wow! Could never guess they would be so accurate. I’ve got Hinduism 100% (I am of course a born Hindu) then Mahayana Buddhism (93%) that’s OK too as Buddhism is somewhat an offshoot of Hinduism and Neo-pagan 91% (this is something I would have to look up). Thnx for a wonderful link. BTW, what I liked the best though is the line below given at the top of the site:

Not even close. They have questions that do not fit me at all. It said Janisim or something and I read that it is not at all what I believe I am a Christian but not one that most so Called Christians would understand. Why because I don't accept man as my ruler but Christ and God. Some things in the questions pertained but many did not at all. So they only ask mainstream questions of what they Think everyone is like and they are way off base with me.

For the record though, I do not, and probably never will ascribe to any structured religion... but it IS interesting to see what religions my veiws align with!

Heh. That was about my reaction, too
For the record, though, while Scientology does espouse some beliefs that push it to the lunatic fringe in some ways, a lot of the principles and beliefs are pretty congruent with New Age beliefs.
I'm in about the same position as you - I don't belong to any congregation and am not likely to ever be part of a formal religious congregation - but I do have some very strong religious, ethical and moral beliefs. Thanks for responding and for taking the quiz!

Oops! Thanks for responding and taking the little test. It definitely pegged me perfectly - spiritual, ethical, moral - not religious.

Interesting combination, hm? It would be interesting to see how the two are comparable. I find that often, religions are much closer in beliefs than most people think they are.
