I was told yesterday that I am going to have to support two new people. I told my boss that is fine, but I need more money to take on two more people on my already very very busy work day. She said she is going to talk to the hirer ups and let me know. I have not heard anything yet.
So my question to you is, have you ever asked for a raise at work and did you get it? If you didn't, did you consider looking for a new job?

that is my goal to work for myself. i have a sit, but there are so tweaks that need to be done to it beofore i get it out there the way i want too. being that my son is away at school, i have to wait until he gets home in a few weeks to really get in there and get it read. i am very excited about it. my goal is $10,000 per month for the first year, and $35,000 for the next year.

I have not really come out and ask for a raise, but I have made hints to my boss as to how much work I was doing above and beyond. The only time I was offered a raise, was when I submitted my resignation, then I was told what a great worker I was, and was it money I was looking for etc. I didn't take the offer, now I wished I did, because the job that I left that company for laid me off.

i was always too chicken to ask. one time i was told i should ask, for a project i had just finished....a supervisor told me i should ask my boss directly. i did, and it made me sick to my stomach. i did get a TAD bit of a raise, but it wasn't much, but he said he appreciated my work, and even with a raise freeze, he got me a lil extra. it was enough to notice on each paycheck. and i think i should have been paid more anyway but they never paid much. i wouldn't have left if there was no raise though. i absolutely loved my job, and they knew it...i was reliable and such, but they would have ahd to give raises, but then lay off people....i would have rather have everyone there WITH a job, it was like a family.

heehee thanks for missing me!! that makes me smile!
my boy is fine and he has a lil sister due in feb!!! so things are still crazy busy, but i can do this while multi-tasking for now, LOL!!!
pls let us know if you get the raise. i think if you're taking more people under your wing, you deserve more pay. it's more work, more responsibility, more of your time needed....it's deserved!

Sorry, I don't follow what you mean by 'support'.
If you work for a company, they pay all their employees. Why would you have to?
Please explain.

what i mean by support is, when they need something done i am the one to do it. i already have to take care of one person and now they want me to now work for two other people and they are not talking about giving me more money for doing so

So you are a care nurse? If I knew the occupation I would have a better understanding. I don't like to answer just based on a guess.
Shouldn't you be paid by the hour or the workload? If you have to spend more time at doing whatever it is you are supposed to do ???? you should be paid more.

I have and they told me that if they give me a raise they have to do the same for everyone and they just can not do that at the time. One place I worked they would keep scores on you for your work performance and when the time came they would call you to the office and let you know your score and if its high enough you got a small pay raise.

i think that is how it should be. if you are doing your job and even going above and beyond of what your job discription is, why not reward that with a raise. and i don't mean 50 cents more an hour. i am talking real money that is going to make some kind of difference in your life

No, but husband did recently and was rejected. He's been at his job for 2 years, and a guy that is really close with a manager and has been there for half the time gets $.50 more than he does. It has nothing to do with skills or performance either, since the guy smokes weed all the time and doesn't put much effort into to work. It sucks, because my hubby's hours have been cut as well, and we have a baby to support. Before this, I was able to be a SAHM, but not anymore. I am currently looking for work.

so sorry to hear that bella. i know that it's not the best time to ask for more money, but man we need it. everything is going up and a cost of living increase is so needed. i wish i could be a stay at home mom, i would love to be able to be there for my kids. but i have to work. good luck on your job search bella

I work in childdaycare for a little over a year now, at least for one and the same company. I am not yet 23, the age when you get your fully salary in Holland. So basicly, with every birthday I had the last years my salary went up. Also, my salary went up because of some new agreements with the government and such.
I haven't had any reason to ask for a raise yet as I am pretty much a rookie and have had small raises from time to time.
If the time comes I will ask for a raise, if I get extra tasks or if I get my new diploma perhaps ( but that's not untill 3 years or so). I am not sure yet.

I've been on disability for most of my life, and work at home for myself, so I have no one to ask for a raise but myself, and know that the best way to earn more on line, and get that raise, is to simply WORK HARDER! I may not be making a lot of money, but atleast I'm no one's slave. LOL

Yes. I have done this a few times. You would think they would offer one to a good employee, but alot of time they don't so you have to ask.

Unless you are in a job position that the company cannot do without you, then getting a raise is going to be like climbing Mount Everest!
I do not know about the work culture where you are from.
Here where I am, asking for a raise is like a dirty word that should not even be uttered!
Once you ask for a raise, they will scrutinized your work to ensure that they can find some fault to stop you from getting any further promotions or salary increments!
Happened to me twice! And they cornered me so bad, I had no choice but to leave for another job otherwise, I would not only be miserable on the pay front, I'd be miserable on the work front as well!

I think looking for a new job is much easier rather than asking the present company a raise.

Hi 34momma, actually I recently did ask for a raise at my 2nd job and got it...of course I did it in writing highlighting my committment and loyalty to the school program that I work for and guess what? I got it!! I sure was surprised because the raise itself was $3.00 an hour, I thought they'd give me maybe .50 cents to 1 dollar, so it was nice...Still, if I would have been denied, I still would have stayed because I love working with the children. Now my official job of 15 years is a completely different story...I am a government employee and we get a cost of living increase every year...the only way to ask and get a raise is to change my title...and I am very happy doing what I do...so no raises here!

I dont't think it is a good idea to ask for raise at the begginning.
Several months later may be a right time when your boss would have seen what you have done.
Just give your boss a reason to give a raise.

I asked for a raise at work. I worked my hiney off and busted tail for them and was always there so I told them it was only fair I got a raise. They agreed. However, it was an entire year before I got that raise. I was promised pay check to pay check it would be in the next one. I finally got it . Talk about patience.

Yes I have. I requested it because I knew I deserved it and that the other colleagues were getting much more than I was then. And the thing about it is that I'm the one that performs the best. Granted that I should be paid more than them, but I just want things to be fair.
If they are getting more than me, and just don't do their best, and just get what they do not deserve just because they have had more experience than I do, it's not fair, because granted that experience is good, but if your performance is bad, it doesn't help the company even with your experience.
I have requested for it for a couple of months, and in the end the higher ups, gave it to me eventhough it was not company policy.
And I'm really glad for that, because it also shows that they really do see and know how good I am in my job.

Yeah, I have asked for a raise at work and luckily my boss granted it. You might ask how I asked what made me push to ask for it, it's because I am the only person whom they call anytime they needed somebody especially for overtime. Sometimes I end up working for two people's jobs on my own there should be somebody to do it but I did it myself because nobody does it. If I would have not got it I will looking for a new job which has not much pressured on me. Thanks for asking and starting this discussion, happy mylotting.

No I personally have never asked for a raise. I believe that a good employer will recognize quality work and reward it accordingly. I should not have to ask for a raise. I should get one based upon my efforts. If my efforts are not recognized then it is time to look for a position where they will be recognized and rewarded. Luckily I am self employed and get to set my own pay when I work a new budget every year.
