Personally for me I have chosen to go with the free downloadable Avast program. I had a lot of problems while Norton was installed and after I uninstalled it all my problems went away. So rather than pay for lock ups and random restarts, I'll just stick with my good ole FREE!

Yes in reality some anti-virus or security softwares in their free edition are better than norton or others softwares where you must pay for license!!Avast is ok as product i think even bitdefender or avg are ok!!

I have been using Avira for quite a time. It is a free version. But I never found any problem with it. I have tried other anti-virus such as McAfee and Norton, they are quite heavy and it slows the computer. So, I am sticking out with my free downloaded anti virus.

I had the same issues with Symantec products. I use Avast too and haven't had any problems. Free is very good!

I agree. I know more people though who have had problems with McAfee. If you have any problems with Avast try AVG free. That is the best one I have found, and as you said, free is good!
