I agree with you. The book of Revelation can be difficult to understand because of its symbolism, but God meant it to be understood, otherwise why would he had inspired it in the first place. It is difficult to explain everything in the book of revelation in one discussion. To understand the book of Revelation, which prophesies the conclusion of God's purpose for the earth and the heavens, one would need to also understand the Bible in its whole. I've read and studied a wonderful book that solves all of the mysteries of the Revelation. It's a verse by verse explanation of this wonderful Bible book. I will give you a little taste of some of things you might learn. First of all, you talked about the mark of the beast. What is this mark? According to Revelation 13:18, it says that the number of the wild beast is a mans number and the number is six hundred and sixty six. In the Bible, the number 7 represents perfection. The number 6 falls short of 7. Therefore tripple six would respresent gross imperfection. It's quite interesting that, in some instances, God's enemies, such as the Philistine man of Rephaim, had 6 fingers and 6 toes (1Chronicle 20:6). Also, according to Daniel 3:1-23, Nebuchadnezzar erected a golden image measuring 6 cubits in breadth and 60 cubits high. The verse of Revelation 13:18 also mentions that the "wild beasts number 666" is a man's number. This helps us to understand that this creature would represent something earthly and not that of a spirit person. So this also helps us understand that this "Wild Beast" is earthly. According to the Bible's other verses, which I don't have time to get into tonight, this Beast symbolizes human government. Just as six fails to measure up to seven, 6 to the third degree-666 is a fitting name for the entire political system that has failed so miserably to measure up to God's high standards. The book is written largely with symbolism but it is understandable. However it would take some time and a lot of conversation. It would be difficult to do it justice here.
