A Blogging Dilemma

I am having a dilemma here on which direction to take my blog to. This is regarding maintaining a good page rank or forget about page rank and sell text links. If you are a serious blogger, you would know that Google would penalize blogs that are involved with selling text link ads such as from TLA and Inlinks. I have a few friends whose blogs have been slapped with zero page rank since they got involved with those programs. However, according to them the money that they are making from selling text links are good and therefore, it was worth it to lose their page rank. My blogs are currently having page rank 3 and 2 and I have been working hard to get those page ranks. At the same time the money that my friends are making selling text link ads are not something that I can just turn my face away... I hope that somebody out there who has the experience with page rank and text link ads could give me some feedbacks or suggestions or advices so that I would not be making the wrong decision... The question is do I sacrifice my page rank and go make some good money by selling text link ads? I would appreciate all your responses as I would be using them to evaluate the direction of my blogs.
