It all boils down to the author. If the author is popular and the books are really worth owning, then I buy the books. Like the famous Sidney Sheldon. I also borrow books from friends. when i see that the author satisfied my interest, then i buy his/her other books. but if not, then it's not worth buying...not even worth finishing what i just read. hope i make sense.

It's the same with me. I also like Sidney Sheldon and have read most of his books. he writes wonderfully. By the way, which of his books did you like most?

If I happen to pass by a book store and see a good book, I buy a book. But there are also times that I just borrow books from the library and friends.

I prefer buying books rather than borrow them It is because I can read at my own pace and not having to worry about when the books should be returned. Should I take along the book I am reading somewhere else I do not worry having to replace it should it get stolen or damaged. What more if the book is borrowed from a friend because such things can strain a relationship. Lately I borrow books from the National Library. Low on funds and difficulties in finding certain books forced me to do so. - rosdimy -

i would rather borrow books than buy books myself.one reason is the money,it is cheaper to borrow one.another reason is that if i buy a book ,i can't insist on reading it completely.if i borrow one from others,i must return it on time ,so i must be forced to read it on and on .

Hi, I do the same. I usually borrow books. Now and then, I buy a book, which is thought over. And in fact, I don't like reading. Reading at most time for me is to look for information. If I want to have leisure , I prefer to watch TV, listen to radio, or travel. As you said, I won't buy any book, unless I need it very much, it can do a great benefit to me, I have to read it for a long time, or the book itself is very very cheap. If I just want to get some information from the book or want to choose reading for leisure, I will borrow it, usually from library, or copy what I need. I think that will use the resource better. At last, I should give thanks to the library in my city, which gives me a free chance to read.

If I really love the author, I want to buy the book but for those that I just want to read for pleasure, I would rather borrow. It will be more economical that way.

books - books to borrow or books to buy?
i would like to buy my own books rather than borrow from others...i kinda feel like its begging.... if i find an interesting book in someone elses place....a boko which i have been looking for and havent found anywhere.... i would ask the person where he had gotten the book from .... if he tells me the place and keeps shut i would understand that he isnt really interested in lending the book so i keep shut too and dont bother asking... if he turns around and tells me to take the book if i want to ....then i would thank him and i would definately return it after i finish reading... theres that fear always ...especially when you love reading and have your own small library that people would come to your house...check your collection of books and ask to borrow one of them and never bother to return it back.... its odd to say that "oh im sorry i wouldnt like to lend my book to you"and its also odd to as for the book back... so i prefer buying rather than borrowing....:)

Hello kunking, I love to read also and just like you, I borrowed books in the library to read. Nowadays, I usually go to bargain book store and buy books I want to read. After reading, I also sell the book on another book store for less. I think the books just got recycled too. So it depends where is the book I want, library, a friend or in the bookstore, I make sure that I read it. Regards.

Of course I like buying books much more. I like to own something that I like rather than borrowing it. Besides, I like reading and why not keep my favorite books? I can even leave them for my child. Books are treasure. I love China

I buy all of my books. There's not many libraries here, except for our school one, and I rarely go there. Borrowing from friends would be another option, but I tend to get messy with my books, especially when I carry them in my bag to school. I'm not a very neat person and I wouldn't want to ruin other people's books. =P If I do borrow a book, however, and like it, I'll probably buy it because I would want to read it again. ^_^ I like the thought of actually owning my favourite books and keeping them on a shelf more than the thought of just borrowing it from someone and then returning it without having the ability to read it again whenever I want. =P

er~~ most of time i borrow books from the library, because there are all kinds of books that i need ,and you know they are free,it cost me little to read books. and also i will read the books carefully and quickly, because i have to return them to library a few days later. if i really likes one after i read it from library,i will buy a new book to store and to read more times. sometimes,i don't want to buy books that I'm not like very much, i think i will be put them in bookcase, and tell myself that i will read them later when i am free so~~~~, maybe i will lost intrested in reading them timely! he he......

I would rather buy books. I am one that has over 2000 books and in the last year, I have been doing the world a favor and selling them on E-Bay (david170164 is where you can check this out on Ebay. I sell most paper back and hard back starting at 1 cent). At the same time, I do not really use the library since I also read ebooks as well on line.

Whether I buy or borrow books depends on the book. I could get a book from the library, read it, and like it. If that's the case, I'll buy it so I can read it whenever I want. If I don't like it, I never check it out again.

I read AND collect books so I prefer buying them. Some would say that its a waste coz you'll only read it once. But not me. I have books that I've read more that once. My Harry Potter collectio for example. I've read each book at least thrice. And collecting them is great! Who knows? I might be able to sell my books for huge bucks someday.hahaha But I dont think I'm up to that. They're too precious for me.

Usually I buy books to make it a part of my collection. I only read books if the topic interests me, so I didn't much borrow books from friends or library, I want to buy it if it is worth reading. I don't want to spend money in a useless book, so I patronize books from my favorite authors like Dr. Leo Buscaglia and Bo Sanchez, Dr. Buscaglia's books are all self-developmental and psychological which are best things to discover, Bo Sanchez is a filipino catholic preacher and a very wonderful author about self-improvement and spiritual journey topics. I always read his books and Kerygma, a catholic magazine. I also buy books about british royalty, I have few collections about Princess Diana and the monarchy itself.

I do both buying as well as borrowing it from library.Despite having a large collection myself i have time and again felt the need to go to library as some books are real expensive. But if i want to have an expensive book for a lifetime i garner some courage and buy that book.
