Best Bible translation for a 10 year old

As a baptism gift, I'm giving a 10 year old a Bible. There are many Bible transalations. Which would you recommend is the best for a 10 year old.
I prefer the New King James version, but it might be a bit tough for a youngster
to read.
Your help would be appreciated.
