Do you have an outside toilet?

Now this is not such a daft question as some of you may think. We have three toilets in our house but not an oustside toilet. My Nanna used to live in a house that had an outside toilet and these houses still do have outside toilets that are used for that purpose. And fifteen years ago I lived in a house that had a working outside toilet and an inside tiolet. I have a friend who lives not far from me and she also has an outside toilet that is in everyday use.

Hi. Annie18. No. I don't have an outside toilet. I do think that an outside toilet is useful for someone to have because a person may never know when their inside toilet starts to act up really badly. Or when they are outside and they have to use the bathroom really badly. I also think that it is very helpful because some people don't like strangers using their bathroom at all.

Back in the day, these were very popular and we actually almost went and looked at a place that had no Bathroom in the house. The only bathroom was outside. Yes, it is a little strange and would not be Fun to have to go in the middle of the night especially if it is really cold outside as well, but I guess it would have to be a matter of personal choice as well.

I have never lived in a house like that, but I've always lived in a big(ish) city and with modern plumbing. But I know a few people who have lived, at least for a time, without.

i dont think it's 'daft' question.. i havent seen 'modern' homes with 'outside' toilets anymore.. but my grandparent's old house did have an 'outside' toilet.. but when grandma grew very old, we tore down apart of the old house - renovated it, and now the toilet is inside the house..

Back in my province, my grandmom's house, they have one and it was still functional when I was a kid. Once when we had the chance to go to some places, most of them have their bathroom outside. I think it is a common thing on some far away provinces here in my country.

I don't have an outside toilet but my parents do have one. They have a working outside toilet, but their cottage where they live is over hundred years old. So it is actually the original toilet but has been done up over the years. They do have a bathroom inside the house as well.

nope, we don't have it. our house has three toilet and bath. all working, and there's only 5 of us here. 3 of which are adult and 2 are kids. we only use two toilets. i once stayed in a friends house overnight with their toilet outside the house. i mean really separated from the house. it,s like you have to walk 5-7 meters to get there. it was a really embarrassing experience. i promised myself not to have a sleep over in their ever again. and my grandma won't permit me either since i got sick with UTI after that incident.

There are many houses in India which have only an outside toilet and in inside toilet. Many conservative people feel that having a toilet inside the house is not hygenic. They feel that a toilet shoud not be inside teh house but shoudl be detached and positioned along the outside boundary of the house in the rear courtyard. Most modern houses have indside toilets and an additional toilet for outsiders positined under the stairs.

I see you live in the UK. I remember when I was young and I lived there many many years ago my grandparents lived in the old row houses and each one had an outside toilet. The house I lived in was new at the time and had indoor plumbing with a toilet with the tank mounted high on the wall. I am surprised they are still around after all this time. I moved to Canada and the old farmhouses, one of which we moved into, had what are called outhouses. They were small wooden structures over a small pit. There were usually two holes in a sort of bench inside, one smaller hole for the little ones and a bigger hole for the adults. The structure is moved to a new pit dug when necessary and the old pit filled in. It was cold in the winter.

Outside toilet?? That's new to me.. I have not seen it b4, and i wonder who will wanna use it.. hehe ^_^ Unless one is very urgent and cant wait to go into the house, only then it will be practical.. Other than that, i guess some members of the public might attempt to use it when they see one.. hehe ^_^ PLus, does the toilet comes together with the house? Can it be tear down?? hehe

No! We dont have an outside toilet. But in our town there are many compound houses, ie.,five or six houses built within a compound wall, for rent and they are with outside toilets. It is to be shared by every tenant. Also,in olden days they dont usually have a toilet in house and go outside of the villages for toilet.Open air toilets was the custom then.Still now, there are houses built with outside toilets because they feel it to be not a sacred one to be within the home.

Yes we have an outside toilet in our house. Well we have 2 toilets in our inside house and one toilet outside on the front of our house. It is quite easy to go to toilet after you lock your house and if people come to visit and really are hurried to go to toilet they go there. Things can be pretty easy that way. Sometimes i come back from my college and remember that I have forgotten the house keys so i have to wait for my mom to get back in the house and till then if i have to go to the toilet I go to the outside toilet.

Good question. I live in the country, so the outside IS our toilet. We sometimes have a rented porta-john when there is a large crowd going to one place. Most people don't like everyone go into their house, so everyone goes outside and uses the porto-john.

I live in SC and I don't think you are allowed to have outhouses anymore. I can remember when I used to come from Florida to visit in SC when I was young.People still had outhouses. We went to one house and had to go in the middle of a hog pin to get to the outhouse it was real scary, there was hogs every were! I waited until the hogs left before I would come out. One person that I knew had a outhouse and didn't have running water you had to pump the water from a hand pump into a tub sit it out side to let the water get warm and then everyone took turns taking a bath in the same water. So let me ask you are you talking about a toilet on the outside that has pluming or a outhouse that has a hole in the ground?
