Speed or quality: which is your priority?

For me, both speed and quality are very important in my work. We are asked to produce a certain level of output per day and at the same time we are obliged to maintain producing quality outputs. Our passing rate for the quality category is 3.0. From January to November this year, I find no problems with regard to quality. My average is almost 4.0. The big problem that I am facing right now is my speed. My average speed is only about 2.0 for many months. Our passing is also 3.0. I am too far from the passing rate. I am already warned that if I cannot produce the required number of outputs per day, I will be given memos. That is not good. I haven't tried recieving that. I really don't like. Just last month, I tried working too fast, I reached the quota at the end of the month but then the qualities of my work are suffered. I know that they are of poor quality. I also know that I am not the only one producing low quality. I was surprised when I received my quality rating because it is 4.5. It was very amazing. Right now, I am not consciencious anymore. I will give them what they want. how about you? Do you prefer speed over quality or quality over speed? Have a nice day!

Depend on the task at hand. But somewhere in between works for me, I mean partly SPEED and partly Quality. I see it this way that life is short and world is imperfect. So we cannot spend our whole life in getting the perfect quality, sometimes we have to give priority to speed. That is why the "Need for Speed" quote is famous but in speed we might loose the quality of the output so we should keep everything to a limit.

Yes I agree with you that we should keep everything to a limit. If ever I will be called because of my quality then I think that is already the time to focus on quality again. I am hoping that it will never happen. Have a nice day!

well as working as a electrician for the council i have to do a least 8 hours of work so that can range from 5 to 25 jobs in a day but loads of paperwork to do as well so i work for speed beacuse as long as the work is up to standards for the regulations and the tenants are happy i can get more done.

I agree with you that you will finish a lot of things if you prioritize speed. Good for you that your works still reach the standard. In my case, it's very different. I know that the qualities of my works are being suffered. Have a nice day!

Hi don,
I always value quality of my work over speed since it is very impossible for me to attain two at the same time but if that is what they want, then we have nothing to do, LOL! Follow it! Most of the time, we need to sacrifice to attain even if it means we are lowering our standard!

For more than a month, I am already lowering my standard. I mean the quality of my works is already sacrificed. I need to do it. Have a nice day!

Our company is aftering our speed but at the same time they are monitoring the qualities of our work. In my case, I know that the qualities of my work is going down but I was surprised that I still received a quality rating of 4.5. I checked the files that were evalutated and I found that there are only 1 to 2 errors per file. That's why they gave me a rating of 4.5.
