In a press release from yesterday, December 4th, Warner Brothers announced they will re-release "The Dark Knight" in theaters and Imax on January 23th, 2009. Apparently this will be world wide too.
So, are you guys going to watch it again?. Did you missed it the first time around and you plan to go and get the big screen experience?
But more importantly, seeing how the movie is "only" 75 millions from beating "Titanic" at the box office, do you think it will reach the mark when it's released again? And of course, do you think this will help the movie during Oscar season?.
I still don't know if I'll go watch it again, but for the rest, I think the answer is yes. So what do the mylotters think?

I have not seen it yet but why should it get a re - release?
Obviously that means that not as many people went to watch it as the producers hoped. Maybe, they did not make as many billions as they wanted to.
Maybe it did not provide the domino "You must go and watch it" effect they had hoped for.
So why grant it a re - release?

Seeing how the movie is the second most successful film of all time (money wise), I don't think the producers are disappointed.
There's two reasons I can think for a re-release:
A. So the movie can make even MORE cash
B. Since the movie will probably be nominated to several Oscars, the producers probably want to keep the movie fresh in the minds of the people voting.
The movie did have the "Domino" effect you mention, I think they are just trying to squish some more milk from the cow, so to speak.

I did miss it the 1st time. Maybe I will catch it this time. I here it was good. But Titanic was seen by people multiple times. I saw Titanic several times myself. I don't know if it will reach it. And the difference is Titanic didn't have to be re-released to hit any record.

It is true that Titanic didn't have a re-release, however, the movie was in theaters for far more time. I don't have the exact numbers here but I think it's safe to say at least 4 more months than the Batman movie.
And people saw TDK multiple times as well, I watched it five times in theaters! And of course, piracy wasn't as huge when Titanic came out.
Mind you, none of these facts prove one movie is better than the other, but it's still fun to speculate whether TDK can take down a movie everyone thought would remain at #1 forever or not.

I do plan to see it on IMAX again, because when movies are that good, I truly want the big-screen version burned into my memory; it's worth it.
It doesn't matter if it beats "Titanic" economically. It is one of the best reviewed movies in history. They will get at least one Oscar nomination, and the public opinion matters a lot as well.

i dont understand why they are re-releasing the movie.. but for sure.. if it does come in the IMAX format.. I should be the first one in que to buy the ticket from the box office.. that would be only for Heath Ledger's potryal of the Joker!!
