Fixed-lines were invented more then 100 years ago. It was one of the best invention which helped people to communicate more easily to each other and faster. But from the 90th years of 20 centuries the number of fixed-lines gradually decrease worldwide. There is many reasons but the main one is mobile phone and also internet communication such as VoIP (voice over IP address). These kinds of communications are perceived by people as modern kind of communication and classic old good fixed-lines are falling down every ear. This segment will never rise again that is the simple fact. My questions would be. Do you still use fixed-line at least once a week? If yes why? If no why? Do you perceive fixed-lines as obsolete? Which kind of telecommunication do you prefer the most? Do you use also VoIP calling? Best regards!

I think it will be awhile before most people part with their fixed line phones, mobile calls cost too much if you talk too long, I only know one person who has gotten rid of their fixed line phone and that was because she was in financial woes and she never talks on the phone anyway, I hate ringing her as the calls cost too much...

In my country I just pay monthly fee it is about $20 and I can call to any mobile phone net and fixed line net for 70 minutes for free and into some particular mobile operators it is plus 140 minutes free calls. i am satisfied with this amount of minutes so I usually do not have to get over my free minutes and pay just monthly fee. There is no big price difference in fixed-lines and mobile line here in Europe. I do not remember when I have ssed fixed-line lately.

Yeah, I use my fixed-line phone at least once a week (usually more). The main reason I do so is because where I live (UAE), calling from a fixed-line phone to another fixed-line phone is completely free, so it's better than calling from a mobile phone to a fixed-line phone. =P I usually call from home anyway, so this doesn't pose an inconvenience to me. ^_^ However, I do prefer my mobile phone, even though it's more expensive, because I can carry it around. I usually don't use it much when I go somewhere, but it's great to contact my parents (and tell them when to pick me up... =P) or just to know that I have a phone with me for emergencies. I prefer my mobile phone, but I use my fixed-line phone a lot because it's free. =P Given a choice when calling from home, I would use my fixed-line phone, of course. ^_^

But there is certainly a monthly fee for your fixed line right? So your calling from fixed to fixed is not that free?

Your phone service I think, but there's no charge when calling others like there is in other countries. It doesn't matter how long you talk or how many numbers you call. =P

yes, i still use fixed line phone. But only to recieve calls. As we have given our phone numbers to everone, we get calls on the fixed lines as well. I have a mobile phone and i do all my calling from the mobile. And all my family members also have mobile with them. so its cheap and easy for us to call mobile than the fixed lines. I am not using voIP so often as mobile.

Hi dieorfly, I use my fixed-line phone all the time and only use my mobile phone when I got out if need be, I don't use my mobile much and I am home most time so no need to use my mobile, just the just my fixed-line. Tamara
