Is your child scared of Santa Claus?

My youngest son, who is two and half, is.
We went over to his school fair today and he was very excited about seeing Santa.
We queued up and payed our money so he could have a photo done with Santa. But when he walked round the corner and saw Santa he turned and fled. He did not like him at all.
My daughter even offered to sit with him on her lap next to Santa to have his photo done but he absolutely refused.
In the end he sat on my lap and we got a photo of me, him and Santa.
The strange thing is that when Santa was walking round the school he had no problem with him and waved at him. He is fine when he sees him in pictures or on TV.
He just gets very scared when he is face to face with him.
Is your child scared of him?

I took my 2 year old to see Santa Claus tonight. He was okay until Santa put out his arms to pick him up then he started crying. I didn't pressure him to go to Santa Claus. Let's face it, if some fat man in a big red suit wanted me to sit on his lap, I'd be scared too. LOL I'm just kidding there, but I think at that age they are comfortable with the people they know best and sometimes seeing someone new and they want to hold them makes them scared and unsure. I guess in the long run it could be a good thing because we always want our children to beware of strangers who might harm them. Maybe next year he will be older and not so scared. Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Merry Christmas to you and your family as well.
You have a good point i am hoping that he will not be so scared next year.
Out of all my five children he is the only one that has been scared of him.
You are right about them being comfortable with who they know best as he has always been very wary of strangers.

My daughter wanted no part of him when she was either 1 or 2. I can't quite remember. Now, she's very comfortable sitting on his lap. My husband took our kids this year, and it was my son's "first" year with Santa, and he wanted no part of him either. I wonder if it's the beard and glasses that most kids that that age don't like.

My daughter is 2 years old now and she doesn't want to go near Santa too. She's even afraid of stuffed Santa. Maybe there's something about that age and stage that's why they are afraid of Santa. She's afraid of strangers too now. Maybe it has something to do with that.
