i was getting my house distempered and wanted to change the decor of the house. I consulted a few friends and got conflicting views. My bedroom had blue walls and i found that it made the room look really dull. I wanted to change it and make it bright white. Some friends suggested that i make it pink and some said paint it yellow. I am not convinced and still prefer white.
What do you suggest?

My rooms have some colored walls and some white ones. I don't like all the walls in any room to be the same color. I change the colors relatively often, so they don't hang around long enough to get boring or annoying. If you prefer white, though, use bright bits of color in the decor!

I think that bedrooms, especially those belonging to children, should have colored walls. My daughter's room is creamsicle orange, and my son's room is bright blue.
Common areas, such as hallways and open concept rooms are tricky. I'm leaving my hallways white, but painting the open concept dinging room dark green. Out living room has a strange, pale, yellowish-green paint that I DID NOT choose. It was like that when I moved in.
I love to make my home a comfortable, fun environment. It's hard to feel secure and cozy in a house with stark white walls.

if i will be given the chance to choose my room color, it will lilac. why? because it's the color that i like most, and i feel very good whenever im into this color. it's the coolest ever. right now, our room was painted white. i don't like it. so i accessorize it with colorful curtains, to brighten the dullness. white is neat, but if my room is plain white i feel like im confined in a hospital room and i just can't breathe.

If it is a rental unit it is best to stay with off white. It is still white but the brightness has been toned down. You get your colours with furnishings. As you do not have to match your walls, interior decorating is more versatile. You can go wild with your furnishings this way. Most people seem to colour their walls and get brown or black furniture (boring!).
If it is your house you can paint your walls any colour you like. I prefer pastel colours as it keeps the rooms light and dark coulours make the room dark and smaller. You should keep in mind that you should consider the wall colours when furnishing your rooms.
Personally I have no problem with white as a bedroom colour, white carpet, etc. is somewhat neutral as would help falling asleep. I understand certain colours help with sleep and certain ones hinder it, I think it has something to do with stimulation which you want to minimize.
As far as colours are concerned I do not want on my walls any colour I see in my toilet for starters. Pink is a hard colour for some people to like. If you are married please do not do that to your husband, he will hate sleeping in a pink bedroom, although apparently pink was shown to have a calming effect on prisoners. My sister used to move a lot and she got so sick of pink bathrooms, it seemed that every place she moved to had a pink bathroom.
Personally I would go with the white walls. Go through as many house decorating magazines you can and get an idea on colourful furnishings and copy the theme of something you really like. It does not necessarily have to be expensive as it can be second hand furniture that you paint bright colours, etc. That way too you can match colours to that brightly coloured bedspread you like.

It's your walls so you should go with whatever you feel most comfortable doing,
maybe it would help if you took note of these:
- a room should also reflect your personality
- if a lack of color is what you are afraid of you can put some color by using the
right accesories, accents and furniture not necessarily the wall color.
- here"s an example of a white walled house with color and personality:

I have white walls. I think white walls would look great in the bedroom. It's plain yet doesn't hurt the eyes, and gives you a good sleep.
But it depends on your preference. Why not try white? Then if you get bored of it, then you can paint anything else on top of it.

i prefer colored walls. for years we lived in apartments and you were not allowed to paint the walls so they were all stark white and so boring. so as soon as i moved into a place where i could paint it was the very first thing that we did. it makes such a difference.

Ok, what does it mean to get your house distempered? The only distemper I know of is an illness puppies can die from. Do you mean decorated?
If so go with whatever makes you happy and calm. I personally prefer color, but not everyone does. They say blue is a calming and peaceful color that promotes sleep - as long as its not too bright or dark.

Yah, Bed room wall is what you see last when you close your eyes for sleeping and when you open your eyes in the morning. The colors of the bedroom also plays a role in giving you a sound sleep. Bed room is a place where you express all your feelings. When you are so tensed the colors of your room to plays role. Dark colors depress you more. So always paint the bedrooms especially with light colors.

In the bedroom I like a neutral color. The last home I lived in I painted the bedroom walls a soft light green called celedon (I think). It would be like celery in color. It was relaxing and just about anyting goes with it. I personally do not like white walls anywhere. I used a warm off white called Arizona White in the kitchen. Not being one for yellow, it still gave a cheery warm feeling.

I actually have white walls in my bedroom, but i think it would be awesome to have colored walls. It would be pretty cool. Of course i don't have anything on my walls yet because i live in a new house and haven't put anything up. What do you think i should put on my walls?

hi mercuryman
I think its really a big concern. I think that to your bedroom where you want your exhausted body feel relaxed and comforted, you must give some soothing touch, which makes you fall asleep to a sound slumber. Itz completely upto you which shade you find soothing, But for me personally i would never get it bright white to me it should be green, or dark pink..........And if you do believe in Fengshui you should prefer something which suits the direction and situation of ur room
