Have you noticed that Chewing Gum is now sweetened with Aspartame?

This is fairly recent. I've just noticed that Gum is now partially artificially sweetened along with some sugar. I used to work for General Foods Inc when they were manufacturing Sugarless Koolaid. It was sweetened with Aspartame and the women running the packaging lines were breaking out with sores on their exposed skin. This Aspartame is definitely a foreign substance which is dangerous to health. I will not use any product with Aspartame sweetening. Anyone out there noticed Aspartame in Gum? Does it bother you to chew it? ( even Big Red has Aspartame)

I didn't know that but it makes me wonder if the Sugar Free Jell-O has the same stuff in it? If so, it might be better to just get the regular kind with the sugar then to have some nasty substance in your body. Is this something mostly in sugar-free or sugarless items or is it in everything and you have to read labels of everything? ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

Yes most products with "sugar free" or "lite" on the label are sweetened with Aspartame. I will not eat or drink any product which includes this chemical. I've seen enough evidence to convince me its toxic to humans.

Hello barehugs. I think that it is not a good idea for people to have those chewing gums artificially sweetened with Aspartame, which is not good to our health. I think that the producers are supposed to make healthy chewing gums for their consumers.

Yes they sweeten with Aspartame (which is just another name for Saccharin) they did tests and found the substance was ok. But I've seen the girls packing sugar free Kool Aid when I worked for Kraft General Foods. They were breaking out in a rash on their arms, and had trouble Breathing. Sugar might not not be healthy but this chemical is toxic and harmful to your health.

No, I didn't notice this. Probably because I haven't chewed gum in quite a while. I don't care for Aspartame or any other artificial sweetener and try to avoid it the best I can. When it comes to my family and I, real sugar is the only way to go. Thanks for the heads up barehugs!

I have to say, " I was very disappointed when I first tasted the Aspartame in the gum." I'm not a big user of gum but do enjoy it occasionally. At least I did enjoy it when it was still sugar sweetened.

I never chew gum and haven't since I was a child. I am aware of the Aspartame because a year ago my wife decided to stop eating or drinking anything with Aspartame in it because she felt it was affecting her memory and read about all the terrible side effects. It's frightening when you realize how many common products have it and how much worse it is than the sugar that these products used in the past.

Gum is useful when driving a distance. It changes the perspective, and helps keep the driver sharp. I miss chewing the gum when I drive, but I will not compromise my health. Very few are concerned it would seem. Thanks for your Response!

I have never been able to eat or drink anything with aspartame. It leaves a sh1tty taste in my mouth. I haven't chewed gum in a long time so haven't noticed that they are putting it in ALL gum now. Sores, eh? Hmmm. Any other evidence?

The aftertaste is enough to turn me off. Aspartame stays in thee gum longer than sugar, and in your mouth for way too long. There are quite a few studies done that suggest Aspartame is Cancer causing.

I believe it. Maybe that's what actually caused my mother's cancer she has now. She quit smoking 24 yrs ago, when she was 41, and used sugarfree gum as a substitute for many, many years. It started with what they thought was a goiter, but when biopsied was cancerous. So they started searching her body to see where else it was. They treat it based on where it started. Finally, they found a small spot on her lung and deemed it lung cancer from her smoking. I don't believe it, since she had been a non-smoker now longer than she was a smoker. They treated her with chemo and radiation, almost killed her, but they thought they got rid of all of it. But it has come back, a year later, it has now metasticised and is riddled all through her upper body cavity, but not in organs. They are now saying that they think it may have started in her reproductive organs. I think it is the sugarfree gum and sugarfree pop she drank for these past 24 yrs. She gained a fair bit of weight when she quit smoking and looked like a pear. So was using the gum as a substitute for the nicotine cravings and habit, and drinking sugar free everything to help prevent more weight gain. Finally, last year, she finally lost 35 lbs and got down to her proper weight. Within a month she had cancer. Too bad she didn't now have that extra weight as a buffer since she lost even more from the cancer treatments. Just to complicate things, she has had MS since she was 41, that is why she quit smoking and changed her diet to try and eat more organically. The new chemo they are giving her is milder and she is taking 6 treatments, 3wks apart to fight this round of cancer. And they still can't give her a definitive answer as to where it started for sure. So they are shooting in the dark.

I just discovered that they also put anti freeze (propylene glycol) in our food as a "safe" additive. WTF? I know that I have heard of dogs and cats drinking it and dying from it, so again, WTF?

Well, I was once told (by a very intellegent person) that when aspertame breaks down in our system it turns into formaldehyde and to a certain degree kills off beneficial bacteria within our digestive tract. So it is possible that the reason it was causing skin ulcers in people handling it was because it might be up setting the delicate balance our skin needs to protect us. The truth is that the air we breathe, the water we drink, the clothes we wear and anything else we come into contact can contribute to untracable and undiagnosable conditions that i am sure are going to continue to get worse as man tries to find cheaper and easier ways to make more money, regardless of the immeasurable costs to the health of the production workers, handlers or end-consumers.

I think you are right-on. Health must come first! Hopefully Companies that manufacture food, or items that are taken internally will soon get the picture. The public must be educated to these health concerns.
