What's in a Hug

What's really in a Hug? I remember reading that studies show that giving someone a hug gives the receiver some assurance and comfort. Kids always love to be hugged by their parents and loved ones, and the same goes for the adults as well. But is there anything else besides assurance and comfort that Hugs provide. And why in some societies, hugging, especially between men and women is shunned? Hope to receive comments and views. Thanks

i think many people view hugs diffrently.some view hugs as warmth, some view them as comfort in the time of need ,some view hugs as geting to close and as inapropriate.some view hugs as a way to show love and get close.there is so many things that could be in a hug.this is a very good subject.

Hugs are a great and magical thing. I think that hugs mean a lot because when you get a hug from someone you know that they feel some sort of affection towards you. My friends are a very huggable group and there's always hugs galore whenever we hang out. Hugs equals happiness is all I have to say.

Hi. RamJey. Welcome to myLot! In a hug is, love and affection. And it makes a person feel good inside. And, it heals any wounds that are present if there is any hurt or pain.

I feel relaxed if I get a hug from my loved ones. I just love the hug of my mother and my best friend. It gives me an assurance that they are with me in whatever trouble I am. It relieves me of all my worries and I feel rejuvenated once again... Jadu Ki Jhappi or the "Magical Hug" is very helpful and powerful....^_^

Physical contact is very much necessary for us people... And the best way for a physical contact is to give a certain person a big hug... Now here is what I think of a hug... With a hug, you can say anything with that simple gesture to someone you love... The thing is that when you hug a person you are exposing your feelings to the person you love because with a hug you bond with that person making him/her feel your heart and your warm body... Its a certain phenomenon in this world that we can't fully explain... All you know is that when you love the person you hug or hugs you, you can feel a piece of heaven in every single moment that you have bonded together.... That is a HUG!

Different greetings are part of different cultures. In other parts of the world or even the US hugging someone might be very unusual or even inappropriate-- in others you might be expected to kiss someone upon greeting. It also depends on context. Hand-shaking, I believe, is a greeting in a professional context. As for me, I generally wave my hand and say hello.

It all depends on your thinking, it can be worthless , it can be priceless... if you are emotional and sensitive then every hug will make you happy and confident. Hug shows that someone cares for you and that is why small children like it very much as they feel secured and know that there is someone for them when ever they need..... Hugs between male and female are not much liked in Asian countries as their culture is different , but has changed a lot last few years.......Hugs are common now a days. It is just a gesture of care and encouragement. It gives pleasant feeling and that is all.........

Dear friend, I could say that it depends upon the intentions of hug and the person who hugs. If the intention is good and with a good heart I hope that hug is one of the best and purest and on other side if that hug is for negative purpose it is to be taken carefully. Those hugs of affection is most valued and this affection and love comes out best when it is hugged. Hence I feel hug has most of good side than bad side.

i think hugging is a great way to show affection and love. it also is a very calming thing when someone is especially upset about something. the human touch goes a long way to communicating a feeling of well being, concern and love. in socities where hugging is shunned i think it is just plain ignorance.

Hugs are somehow a very good way to show your love or affection to someone. It is a polite to hug people in most western coutries but it is considered a way to show romantic feelings between men and women in some countries.Maybe just because their thoughts are more traditional in these countries or societies.Anyway,I always think hugging can make people feel good and comfortable in some degree for everyone.

Hi, RamJey. Besides, I think hugs can give other people the feeling of safety. I remember when I was young, I really want to get hugs from adults. If my mother hugs me, I feel very safe and comfortable. Now I am an adult, when I feel depressed and unhappy, I feel very eager to get a hug from others. But as you said, in our country, people are not adaptive to hug, especially hugs between men and women. Even you are brother and sister, you can't hug in other people's face. And for wife and husband, it's also shy for them to hug in front of others. Of course, now more and more young people are changing this. But the Chinese tranditional mind effected largely by Confucian is hard to be changed in short time.

Hello, RamJey. Hugs are really great. Sometimes, when you are sad and you hug somebody, you will feel comfort and security. It is like a barrier, as if nothing could reach you anymore while you are hugging. I am not too used to hugging. I hardly ever receive hugs from people. I don't know why, but I always am afraid of hugging others and making them think that I am with second intentions. That's why the hugs between men and women are not so often. Though you will find men and women who are constantly hugging themselves, and they are not dating nor anything else. Respectfully, Munhozmib.

Well, it may be shunned for some culture. Not for ours though. Hugging is a way of greeting someone. Also, hugging is a way of showing your warmth and care for someone.

I think a hug releases many different feelings. Besides assurance and comfort, a hug can be used to express delight or joy. A hug can also be used to express consolation. A hug may also just be a friendly gesture depending on the situation. A hug between a man and woman may be shunned for religious beliefs.

Bacause it's dictated by their culture, their beliefs or even by their religion.
