This morning my little sister put her dog rosie outside at 8:10. They live on a farm nearest neighbour is 2 miles away. 15 minutes later the propane truck came and my dad went out to talk to the guy. He came in and asked Mara if she had put her dog out because she wasnt there. Which she had. Normally rosie goes out and shes asking to be back in in about 20 minutes. We've spent the last 5 hours searching all over for her. But with fresh snow last night you can see where she was and where she wasnt...and We've searched ALL over even where theres no tracks. My mom called the company with the propane and got the propane guys cell number...she called and asked him if he saw her when he pulled into the yard and he says there werent any dogs when he pulled in. Dad says before the propane guy got there he had heard someone on the road. We cant find her and there were extra tire tracks in the yard. So today sucks...They still have murray. We've phoned our neighbours I came over from my house and helped search. Everyones very sad - we've all cried including my dad. Have you ever had a pet go missing? why would someone take someone elses pet from in front of their house? When theyre HOME EVEN??? Dont they realize all their doing is hurting other people?

My question is why did you let your dog running free unsupervised? I don't want to add insult to injury. But I hate the idea that owners leave their dogs running freely. They can be ran over by a car or stolen such as in your case. I won't let my dogs out with a lead. © ronaldinu 2008

I would not let my dogs outside without a lead.

Its not like we live in a city its A FARM. All our dogs we've had since i was little have been either outside dogs or they are outside during the day and sleep inside at night. It'd be MEAN and CRUEL to leave them permanently tied up when theres a big yard and the nearest neighbours are 2 miles away. We're half a mile off the highway. Rosie and Murray have been fine outside UNSUPERVISED everyday for the last 5 years why should we have thought yesterday would have been any different.

I can see not letting your dog outside off the lead if your're in a city or town in a poplated area which sees more than 4 or 5 cars down the road a day. But then I was raised on a farm where our animals were let to be free and not always confined to a lead or the house.

People that do that sort of thing don't care that they are hurting someone else and for all you know it could be someone that does not like your family for whatever reason. I am sorry to hear that this pet has gone missing and I hope you get her back safe and sound Hugs

We got her back this afternoon. I was glad. It turned out visitors of our neighbours didnt know our house was there (dark the house is farther off the road - long driveway) and thought she was dumped there so they picked her up and took her to the neighbours. They returned her after they found out she is ours.

I have never had a pet stolen, so I cannot really put myself in your position. I am sorry to hear that someone has stolen a family pet. That is just terrible. I hope you find out what happened to her soon.

We haven't found her so far - its been 12 hours. Her mate and my dog are both here and seem to be looking for her...missing her.

This is awful. I can see why you think she would have been taken as she is unlikely to have wandered off in the snow. I would be frantic if it was my dog. I hope you get her back. I cannot understand how anyone could do this. If the truck had hit her where would he hide here that you could not find her. Surely you would have heard her crying. Oh and if she is out at night in the snow she will be so cold. No I have never lost a dog that way, only through illness. I have never had one just disappear, I would be too upset to cope.

I hope we find her. We called and called and we searched we went through the bushes and followed tracks and building and anywhere that we could think of...we called neighbours and we still havent found her. She's never wandered off before and she's always come we called. She usually is sitting at the end of the sidewalk waiting for me when i get out of my car. and Begging to go with me when i leave she loves car rides,

I am so sorry to hear about this. I hope you guys are able to find her soon. I do not know why someone would take another person's pet. It is horrible to do something like. I consider it kidnapping since my husband and I consider our pets to be family members. I will keep you guys in my thoughts.

That's absolutely horrible! That is just simply mean! I have a dog and he's a boxer. I love him unconditionally and couldn't imagine if someone stole my dog. I mean seriously who does that. I don't know what i would do, i'm sure i'd put out rewards posters and tell all the neighbors but what do you do especially if you have no idea who has them. Good luck finding him.

We got her back tonight - my sister took posters to church with her this morning and it turned out our neighbours had visitors and had driven past our house not realizing our house is there...its quite a ways off the drive with trees and not visible in the dark. They saw rosie and thought someone had dumped her so they took her to our neighbours house. We hadnt gotten ahold of them yesterday so when their daughter took the poster home they called us and let us know they had rosie. I'm so glad she wasnt gone forever.

I have a hard time believing it too...i was reading after i posted this yesterday that pets have been stolen from yards, right outa the back of a vehicle, if someones tied them up to go in a shop theyve been stolen. Luckily it turns out someone picked her up and took her to a neighbour of ours. We've got her back now so we're all very happy.

We got her back this afternoon. We were really happy to get her back. It made me really sad last night to hear my dad getting up and calling her during the night. He really loves her.
