It's okay to be scared.

No matter how brave, strong,or levelheaded we are, sometimes we all get scared. It may be for our own physical safety, especially if we are not feeling well, living under difficult circumstances or exposed to hazardous conditions. It may be that we are fearing the loss of a loved one who is ill, or it may be a financial crisis. We may be scared of starting a new school or a different job. Whatever we are afraid of, our fears are valid and we should never be ashamed or embarrassed that we are sometimes scared. Remembering that we are not alone in this, that it happens to everyone can be encouraging. Perhaps even more helpful is sharing our apprehensions with other people, it lightens our burden and can make our fears seem overwhelming. I'd like to get your thoughts and opinions on this. Thanks.

Hi Pose.....This is a good thought and a good suggestion on your part..But I am afraid its a bit difficult to implement all the time..Ok I am scared of heights,I am sacred of illness,of walking around alone in the darkness..But very often in my family I feel that I am the pillar of strength for my husband and sons.I always like to hide my fears come what may,and this has helped me get a hold on my family, most of the time.....By pretending to be brave even in the most difficult times,I have succeeded to be role model to my sons,too.....and has helped to over come my fears too to a great extent.....

Hi Rose, That's an excelent response, thank you.I really like what you say about pretending to be brave, because that's really the secret. "Do the thing you're afraid to do and your fear will vanish" wrote a very wise man once time, and I believe he was right. I have a fear of heights, and that may not change - but then who knows? Blessings.

Thank you Pose....And you know the saying of the wise man is very correct.I am also afraid of heights, but guess what,we moved into an apartment on the 11 th floor recently......and there is a wonderful view, and a wonderful breeze here, and my fear of heights has simply vanished after living here.

I don't hide my fears. I don;t like chicken, alive chicken to be around me. I hate their smell and I hate them around me. My younger brother once swerved one and throwed it at my face and it was a near miss that a hen did not hit my eyes with her claws. © ronaldinu 2008

I agree on this but personally I am fearless except for the loss of a loved one which is the worse thing could ever happen in ones life. :)

Hello dear Pose. It is a nice discussion you have started. Yeah, I think that it is very true to me when I think about trying to relocate my working place. I feel a little bit scared as I have no idea whether it will be a better place and whether I will get better paid for my work in a new place as everything in a new working place is so new and strange to me. I have this in mind for long without daring to move easily considering these factors...Thank you again for the discussion.

You are very right. Under the situation you mention feeling of insecurity as well as loneliness also involved, if not enough support from friends and others received timely.

Yes, I agree. I think it's okay to worry as long as it doesn't affect ones health. We are not alone with respect to our fears regarding our relationships, money matters, and environmental factors. I think the best way to overcome it is to turn our fear into something positive by talking to people about it.

At this time my only fear has to do with my boys. My two boys still live at home with me since my older boy is in college and my younger one is in his last year of high school. I would love for them to stay with me forever ,but I know that one day this will change since they have the right to seek independence by getting their own place or getting married ,and sometimes I wish that I could stop the clock ,but I don't want to be selfish either. Is so hard to separate from your kids even if they become adult themselves. I adore my two boys ,and I know that it will be hard to let go.

I think over the years, as you mature, you lose a lot of fears. However, some irrational fears remain. I am still terrified of lifts; and I have a horror of snakes. But I am no longer afraid of the future or of what will happen and what not. You are right, fear is natural...however,I think if a person feels too scared all the time, he/she needs help. Cheers and happy mylotting

Hi positiveminded, I agree that some people carry fear to the extreme and need help. I still have some fears but not as many as a few years ago. I too hate the thought of snakes, but thank God, there are none where I live. Blessings.

I agree with this. I get scared a lot. It is good to know that I am not alone. We are all only human. We can help each other out with this. And sometimes, yes, fear is necessary. It can literally save our lives. But, we also do not need to live in fear of anything or everything. We need to learn balance. But, it is definitely okay to admit to being scared. I agree.

Most people are only scared when its a quiet room and no one is around. The effect of this can cause your brain to go on RED ALERT so at any sound it frightens you. I personally have been there, and its ok to be scared
