With the last Big 6 conference undefeated going down today, we are blessed with a bunch of really solid one loss teams. For this discussion, I will throw in a handful of teams that I think are worthy of being labeled as the best team in football.
University of Florida - they have a heisman winning quarterback. They just beat the #1 team on a neutral field on national television. They are a blocked extra point away from being undefeated. They have one of the most explosive offenses in the game and have a very surprising defense that does not start any seniors. They also might have just won their way into the national title game.
Oklahoma - Their offense is unlike anything we have ever seen before. 4 straight games of over 60 points, 5 straight games over 55 points. They are one of the most balanced offenses in the nation, they have a quarterback with over 4000 yards passing and over 40 touchdowns. They also have a 1000 yard running back. They have a huge tight end target in Gresham that creates matchup problems with every linebacker so far this year.
Texas - Their only loss coming from a last second touchdown from Michael Crabtree. Beat Oklahoma 45-35 on a neutral field. They have one of the most efficient passers to have ever stepped on the field in Colt McCoy, who boasts a 78% passing completion percentage.
University of Southern California - They seem to be the most traditional football power here in terms of style of play. The other three teams boast a spread offense that operates mainly out of the shotgun. USC is more traditional, although they do run a lot of single back sets. This team is all about defense. Their 7.2 points per game given up this year is the lowest since Auburn in the 1980s. This defense will pressure you, they will hit you hard. All 3 of their starting linebackers seem to be legit NFL prospects, with Ray Maualuga leading the charge, along with Brian Cushing.
