I talked to a friend a couple of hours ago. I called him to talk about Christmas and New Year's Eve. We are going meet before Christmas to exchange presents and we were trying to decide when. We were also talking about New Year's Eve and how we are going to spend it. He is coming over to my place, but at first we want to have dinner somewhere at a restaurant, so we were discussing where to go. I just moved here and I don't know the town at all, but I promised to look around and see if I can find a nice place.

My mother called me this evening so I talked to her for all of 10 minutes before I got rather annoyed and didn't want to speak to her anymore. I was ready to hang up because she's always interested in talking more about herself and the things she does or gets then in what is going on in my life.

I am currently on the phone with a friend of mine that has had the same issue for the last year and a half. I love her, so I am always glad to talk to her. But, how many times can you have the same conversation about choosing to either get back together with her ex-husband or try to date someone new. She is the kind of person that I can listen to the inflection of her voice without actually listening to the words she is saying and just interject a "yeah" and an "I'm sorry to hear that" and an "oh" every once in a while. I am a more active participant in our conversations during the day....in the wee hours of the night I just let her talk until she is ready to go. She just needs me to be a sounding board sometimes.
