What exactly is the difference between a geek and a nerd??? A third of the time i am told I am a nerd, another third of the time i am told i am a geek, the rest of the time i am told i am just plain weird. I answer to all three. However, i was told tonight that i am in fact a geek and not a nerd. I am so confused...what exactly is the difference??

Yet again both apply to me..although i am not that technical when it comes to computers. If something broke on it, or it crashed..i would have to call you and ask what i did....what i have already done that. And please look at my hobbies...i read and crochet...how much more nerdy can you get than that???

Okay dark thats just it..your mom does it...she is hold old...compared to how old i am. I am constantly hearing..."oh your crochet thats so neat, so does my grandmother." Its the fact that not many people my age crochet. But let me tell you i am great at it..ask moon she'll tell ya. I made her parents a blanket, and moon has something i made. You name it i can and if i can find a pattern i can make it.

A geek can still have a good fashion sense and it will take a lot for a nerd to have one. A geek i think personally is someone who's good at certain things like computer while nerd is good academically. Though not all good in academics are nerds just someone whom the majority think is uncool. Most geeks are cool.

I think....and I'm kind of just going off the cuff here.... is that a "nerd" is someone who is very book smart, studies a lot, doesn't go out much except to chess club meets, lists "calculus" as a hobby.... while a "geek" is someone who is more socially adept but smart about a lot of things, including but not limited to a lot of pop culture garb.
There was a game show on... I think it was Comedy Central, but I can't remember for sure.... called Beat the Geeks and it was a trivia game where there were four "Geeks" - a TV Geek, a Movie Geek, a Music Geek and a special guest Geek who was an expert in one particular thing like Star Trek or Metallica - and three contestants tried to get more points in each category than the respective Geek. Anyway, to make a long story short (Too late!!) that, and the Revenge of the Nerds movies of the 80's, is how I formulated my definitions.
Or....there is the circus side show geek who bites heads off of chickens and drives nails through his body.....although I don't think that's the definition being applied to you (or me, I hope).

I liked it to. See i was always told i was book smart, but i don't really specialize in one thing...inless you include knowing useless facts. In high school i was in the science club, and i am soooo not a math person. I did though get in trouble in my high school freshmen english class for reading. Who on earth has that happen to them?? I have piercings but i don't drive nails through my body or bite heads of chickens. And inless you count talking to people online as being social, i am very socially inept.

Quick response, Geeks Get stuff done!
Nerd are usually stereotyped as those people who would lock themselves in a room with their other "nerdy" friends and play D&D, study nearly all the time they're not playing D&D and are rarely seen at parties unless others drag them alone.... literally lol
Geeks are those people who you would see in school fixing someones laptop on campus, always has some CDs or tools in his or her bookbag and are usually just helping people with stuff that requires specified knowledge. These people are more socially apt because they try not to seclude themselves from the general public.
