I know this is somewhat old news, but I was just wondering, what exactly is Thanksgiving all about? Why do people in America celebrate thanksgiving? Did it have to do with winning a battle in history? We don't celebrate it here in the Philippines so I don't really know how this national holiday came about.

It's a celebration in the states regarding the relationship of the White Americans and the native americans I believe. I'm not sure as well haha but what I heard is that there's something about how hospitable the native Americans were to the white Americans by providing them food and such :P
Thanks for the comment on my discussion!

In autumn 1621, about a year after the Mayflower Pilgrims made landfall at Plymouth, they put together a feast and broke bread with their Native American neighbors, the Wampanoag, who were celebrating Keepunumuk, the time of the harvest. The menu featured fowl, venison and fish, along with wheat and corn products.
Sporadic national, regional and individual Thanksgivings followed, but the day did not become an annual, national holiday until 1863. Americans were waging the Civil War, and in the midst of it President Abraham Lincoln, spurred on by the lobbying efforts of writer Sarah Josepha Hale, proclaimed a national day in which to express thanks for the many blessings enjoyed by Americans, e.g., natural resources and population growth, despite the military conflict.

for my family Thanksgiving is a celebration of being thankful for our loved ones and our lives..but mostly its about the gathering of the family in one place to be with each other.
