hi, guys! yesterday i accompanied one of my friends to look around the house he intends to buy and it seems not bad though the house has been used for 7 years..my friend didn't care that and currently he can only afford a sencodhand house..u know..in general, the price of new house is so high that few common people can afford though it has gone down a lot duo to economy crisis..however, i'd like to buy a new house when i get married even if its a small one but enough for living...
so what abou u ? would u like to buy a secondhand house?

I think the main issue about getting a house is not so much about new house or secondhand but whether the house is as per our requirement.
Here are some I can think of:
1) PRICE; within our budget
2) location; near our work, has schools nearby for our kids or future kids, near/far from our family if still within the same city, etc
3) house size; big enough for our usage and family planning, not so big as to have too much cleaning, etc.
4) house layout, house exterior, fixtures included, etc
All the above-mention are inter-related and we usually have to compromise one to get the other eg. it's a bit further from my work but the price is just right and this will be a really good environment for my kids to grow up at.
For me and my husband, buying a new house is not an available option because it's either too expensive(private houses) or we don't qualify for it(government subsidized). So what we were looking for was a reasonable secondhand house with minimum renovation required to keep within our budget.

I love old houses. I was raised up in a brick ranch and said when I was smaller, when I grow up I want a brick house. My house was built in 1974 and when I found it I loved it. Now I wished I would have gotten a newer house. The heat has gone out and the furnace has to be replace. The stove is a drop in stove and it is on it's last leg. If I had to redo it I would do it different.

in some cases owning a second hand house could bring a lot of problems opposed to a new house it,s new and everything should work in the new house.a second hand house can need a roof or pumping are the walls need to be done are some other problems it could have a heat problem.new is better

It depends, if it's a new house I'd construct it if I have the right budget and design. But if I can't afford a new house, I'd look for a house that's in a very good condition. My family's house was just bought from the previous owner, we've been living in that house for almost 18 years now.

We are in a weird time right now in the market where real estate is depreciating, which rarely happens. Generally speaking the age of a property rarely has little bearing. Sometimes you can find a old house that is in better condition, than a new home based on the quality of construction, material and floor plan. To buy new doesn't necessarily equate to it being better from a point of real estate.
I have bought and lived in many houses. This is only the 2nd brand new house, that I have lived in. I was able to design and pick out every detail of this home from the foundation to the rooftop. Its not a "cookie cutter" home, so very different from most in the sub-division. I picked my own lot and designed it as well. Usually even with a new home you don't have all of the options. This home for me was my next to dream home.I have been in this home for almost 3 years. I plan on building one more home that I will hopefully live in for the rest of my life. That will be my dream home.

Well i would like to build my own house according to my desires. So I would always go for a new one if possible it should be designed by me.

I wanna have my own house someday and I want it to be the house I imagine. So I prefer a brand new house. And not just any house, I want it built from scratch with my own design. Its not really easy to live in a house which wasnt built for your needs.

Hi Kunking, I actually prefer a new house, as everything inside, like electricity cables, water pipes, finishing and all are new. Whereas for a secondhand house, I may have to spend money on these, plus repainting the house, or to remove some other fittings or fixtures that the previous owner had.
And it's also there's no 'history' in a new house; it starts with me.

It dosent matter much to me how old or new a house is, as long as the house is well kept and in good condition and the price is right, of course I would lean toward a newer home because it might be in better condition, but it dosent have to be brand new, but if I happened to see a slightly older house within my price range and if it had most if not all the quality's I look for in a home I would have an inspector look at the home before finalising the purchase on it to make sure nothing is wrong with it.

I love old houses and would rather live in an old house than a new one any day. I might feel differently if I could design my own house and have it built exactly to my specifications, but even then... New houses just have so little character. Old houses seem to hold all the love of the families that have lived in them over the years. I love peeling back old wallpaper and finding what's beneath it and finding things left behind in attics and cellars. Even when I rent, I always prefer renting in older houses than in more modern boxes with walls.

I'd love to buy a new house or a second hand house. A house that has been used for only 7 years should still be in pretty good shape. Of course it depends on how well it has been taken care of.
I'd like to buy an old house and fix it up the way I want it.

I think that there are good and bad things about both kinds of houses. I love the atmosphere of old houses. I like to read about the history of the house and to think about the people who have lived there before me. Who were they? What kind of life did they have etc?
I once heard about a couple who had bought a very old house. When they were re-decorating the living room, they removed many layers of wallpaper, and they found a door that had been hidden for many, many years. The door led into a room with old things. A lot of it were just junk, but there were some valuable things, too. I love discovering old things in the attic etc. I have never found anything really valuable in the houses where I have lived, but I like exploring the past. A new house doesn't have a past to explore.
The bad things about old houses are the practical problems: Roof, water pipes, electricity etc. Living in a house where eveything is old and worn out can be really expensive. There are many practical things which you don't have to worry about if you buy a new house, but new houses seem a little "boring" to me and I am not very attracted to them.

I've lived in both. The first two houses that I bought were both new and the one that I'm living in now is an older home. I prefer the older home because it is a better built house than the new ones that you can buy today. Also in the new homes in our area (I live in the U.S. Near Los Angeles, California) have very small lots. The house that I live in now is on a half an acre of land. I never realized how poorly built the homes that I lived in were until I loved into this home.

Well personally, there are a lot of Good and bad things when considering buying a new place. Yes, the American dream or any dream for that matter is to get married, buy a home, and live happily ever after. But due to the Economic crisis going on everywhere for most, it is impossible to ever consider building your own home, or buying a New home as well. Maybe someday this will change again, but for now you have to do what you can do.
Personally all I could ever afford for now would have to be a home someone else has previously lived in. So that means it would be up to me to paint it, etc. and give it a flair of my own as well. Since we are eventually wanting to sell our Condo and buy someone bigger, this may happen, but until then I live where I am at still holding on to the dream of owning a home someday as well.

I know a new house is much more expensive, but I still prefer to the new one. As you can design or make whatever you like since it's new. And you don't have to spend much money to remove the original decoration and then make your own style. As to the second hand house, I am afraid you have to pay extra money to fix some problems like the electricity etc.
I love China

I've lived in both and I prefer an older home. The new homes aren't built as well as older homes were built due to rising costs and where I live (In the U.S. near Los Angeles, California) the lots on new homes are very small. My home is situated on a half an acre of land. I never realized how poorly built my other homes were until I moved into this house.

I prefer to have a new house. Well, its better to have a new one rather of having an old house because if its new ofcoures, you can avoid of the bad luck that you can have when you get an old house.
But nowadays getting a new one costs so expensive that we cant afford of getting such.
