Should boys and girls be segregated in sport?

In football, boys and girls over the age of about 8 have to play football separately. There are separate adult leagues for all of them. Is this to protect the women or to ensure that women can get a game?
Do you think it is unfair to women to be banned from the men's adult sports leagues or would none of the be able to compete anyway as we have seen in golf.
Also men are banned from competing in the women's leagues. Is this fair?
What are your views?
Why not one competition for everyone and the best would make it to the top, wouldn't they?

I'm sure you will be getting the same responses to this discussion. Football ans basketball are obviously more physical. Can you picture a woman quarterbacking in the nfl? We all know that those players on deffense are out their for one thing, and that's to kill the quarterback. I don't think there's any amount of protection that any woman could wear to keep her from feeling the amount of pain a 270 pound linebacker would put on her. It's more of a size and strength thing when it comes to football and basketball. A female center in womans basketball stands around 6ft tall. A center in mens basketball range anywhere from 6'10 - 7ft. Can you picture a 6ft woman trying to guard Shaq or Dwight Howard? I don't think so. A game of baseball is probably based on skill and strength. Can a woman hit a 100mph fastball as far as a man. or would she be able to pitch as hard and fast. I think that one day we might see a woman trying to compete with mens baseball. I really think that there will be a woman that will grow up throwing a 92mph fastball.
As far as the other sports they are mostly based on skill. Like golf and bowling and race car driving. I didn't see what all the fuss was about when that asian girl wanted to join the mens pga tour. It's not a physical game. All you're doing is hitting a ball into a whole, Either you can or you can't. Maybe the only point that they could make is that she might not have been able to tee off at the start and drive the ball as far as one of the men. But other than that, who is to say that any woman couldn't get the ball in the hole. some sports are obviously too physical for most woman to interact with men on a professional level. Hockey, football and basket ball are the main ones. That's why we have womens softball and womens basketball. They actually have a womens recreational football league here in ny. it's an independent league that saome woman put together and play football, pads and everything. I'm not sure if it's still around.
