Christmas shopping blunder

The biggest mistake I make when I go Christmas shopping is going into a shop and seeing something I would like to buy for someone. I then, for some strange reason, decide not to buy it. Maybe I will see something better, cheaper or more suitable elsewhere. Having not found anything else I return to the shop, perhaps 2 hours later, only to see that they have sold out, even though there was probably 4 there previously. What mistakes do you make when you go Christmas shopping, apart from taking your kids and spouse with you? LOL

The biggest mistake I ever make is to go shopping in the first place. lol Generally my partner and I do most of the shopping together and these days we never take our now adult children with us. They are still like kids it seems and if we don't watch it, we end up with all sorts of things that we do not want in our trolley. Now we worry that these children of ours will teach the grandchildren bad habits. When it comes to buying presents, for us it is birthday presents as that is the one we make a big fuss about. Christmas for us is not about presents but more about spending time with our family and special friends as well as the religious aspect. However when it comes time to do shopping we spend hours looking for what my partner calls the "right present". We do not necessarily wait until it is the time for a birthday but when we are out shopping we will start to look for things that they might like and want plus can use of course. It can be very frustrating though to see something we think would be good but are still pondering the matter. When we go back again, the shop is out of stock and even if they are prepared to get another one in, it will cost a lot more than the one we saw.

Hi ya riyasam Yes taking the spouse can definatly become very stressful and they can be just as bad as the kids so I do my shopping when the kids are at school. Thanks riyasam

Isn't that sod's or Murphy's law my friend when that happens! I hate Christmas shopping with a passion so I usually cheat by either getting presents earlier on in the year however my blunder usually comes when I forget about what I have already bought and then I will panic because I haven't got a present for someone, go out and buy it and then hey presto the original gift I had bought back in April or May for example suddenly appears as if by magic LOL!

Hi wolfie34 It is definatly sod's law! LOL . The other mistake I made the other night was that I watching tv and wrapping the small gifts for the kids for their stockings which I don't bother labelling because they are too small and I would have to disguise my writing. Anyway I had them all seperated up into three bags, one for each child, and without realising what I was doing I started to put the ones I had wrapped into the wrong bag! All their gifts are the same but different colours or different animal but I had chosen certain colours/animals for certain kids! Cheers wolfie

i make that same mistake, lol. i'm not sure why i don't just make the purchase, time and time again, i go back and the item is either gone or if there were 'plenty' they are sold out. i do not make the mistake of taking my s/o with me, although we have gone christmas shopping together, but at some point we always go seperate directions, to shop for each other.

I usually leave my wrapping until a bit closer to the time! If I had wrapped something and then forgot what it was I wouldn't worry and leave it wrapped!

Sorry Humbug. My mind went ahead of me. My biggest Christmas blunder is never shopping early enough. I generally only have to get one present and I can mess even that up!

My biggest blunder would have to be not getting my shopping done early enough. I procrastinate. I don't like shopping, so I wait until it is almost too late, and very often can't find what I am looking for. You'd think after the last 3 years of doing this, I would learn to have my shopping all done by August or September, like I used to.

*L* No, haven't even started, really. I bought a couple of little rubber books for the baby who will be here this year, but other than that, nothing. I will do it all next week.

I prefer to do the Christmas shopping at home. I ll just say whatever I need and let my wife goes on her own. This way everyone will be happy. She can have ample time to window shop and go into every shop that she likes while I can stay at home in my sacred peace. © ronaldinu 2008

You listed some pretty good mistakes. I don't have a husband or kids, but I do know it isn't wise for me to go shopping with a man! I often think I can find a better price, and then it doesn't happen. Of course going back to the original store, the sale is either over or all the items are gone. I did that with a computer once. I saw one with an unbelievable price during Christmas time. I wanted to get it, but my dad who was with me, told me he'd find one with a better price. He didn't. And when I came back two weeks later, the sale was no longer going on.

I thought it was a womans way of seeing something in one shop visit twenty other shops and then go back to the first shop to buy it. My mistakes are normally peoples sizes when it comes to clothes. And one size fits all doesnt always look good on a 20 stone guy!!!

This has not happened to me on the same day but it has happened to me. I went to look for this perfect present I could get for my brother at a specialty sports store. I was going to think about it buying it and when I came back in 3 days it was gone. I was disappointed but found something better so I was happy!
