Hello saichandtalluri, where people did not use tooth paste and brush, in our country used ashes from cow dung, a mix of salt and oil, a powder made of turmeric and calcium bicarbonate as paste and their finger was their brush. People also used and continue to use twigs of neem, bheranda (local name)for brushing teeth.I myself have used all, at least for once, in childhood. Good luck

I think it was in the movie Romeo and Juliet that I saw Gwyneth Paltrow in the Victorian age, brushing her teeth :D She was using a tree root or a branch where the end is bristled - I think they used to use a specific tree for that, something that doesn't stain and something that actually helps you clean your teeth. Thanks for the response on my discussion!

Hello saichandtalluri! I have heard that my ancestors, first filipinos were using salt as their toothpaste. I guess it's quiet effective too.

Wait, I think I've read this somewhere. I think they used to do it with a certain twig. I forgot what plant it is that they used but apparently if you do it frequently, its still effective. I'm going to look where I got this info in my books :)
