Should governments try to limit family size?

Vietnam joins China on a shortlist of countries who are facing up to over-population in a sensible way - limiting family size is a sensible precaution. It is a shame that the government in UK cannot learn the simple lesson.
In our overcrowded island, mothers are paid £18.80 per week for the first child and around £12.00 per week for all subsequent children regardless of earnings.
In addition mothers get £48 per week child tax credit, if not working. This is reduced in accordance with earnings to reach zero at around £57,000 earnings. This is per child.
There are lots of supplements on top (mostly if you don't work). No distinction is made as to whether they are good or bad as a parent. They all get the money.
What do you think of these attempts to control the population in China/Vietnam or where you live, but not in UK?

Yes i think they must put some limit on family size to control the population and child benefit payments

I think this is a world wide problem, we have it here in USA also. Now that so many jobs have gone to countries who can supply cheap labor, we have to many people without jobs. This is a condition that should have been foretold and stopped with taxation not encouraged with tax credits.
