Personally I love grabbing a raw potato. Some people say it's bad for you but I figure if it's bad that way then potatoes are bad all together. So do you eat raw potatoes? Does anyone in your house do this and make you sick to your stomach? My bf can't stand it when I do he thinks it's so gross. My father, myself and my dogs all eat raw potatoes. And we don't care what you think! Ha. Don't take me wrong I love them cooked as well!

Hi, I would like to just say to you that potatoes are NOT junk food as such.....but if you only ever make potatoes into fries/chips/crisps then yes, of course they can be bad for you.
A potato that is baked in its jacket with a topping of your choice on, such as Tuna mayo, is not junk food......quite the opposite in fact.
A potato is a slow release carb which is very very good for you. You cannot have a healthy diet without having carbs. You need these for balance....very very important.
I find it strange that someone, somewhere has told you that potatoes are junk food! :-))

When I was growing up and my mom or grandmother was peeling potatoes she always gave any of us kids that were around at that time. we always thought it was a great treat. You should be careful not to eat any that have a green color to them. or be sure to cut all the green colored parts off before eating them. In fact better not to eat a potato that has green color under the skin at all.

Hi Keely.
No...I wont eat raw potatoes because they contain a sunstance called Solanine.
Solanine is at its highest concentrations where there are any green bits on potatoes....and it evens out as the green bits ripen. It is actually a natural anti disease and anti fungal agent.
You dont want to be eating this really as it is a poison in high concentrations. And even though it might not affect you too much as you get used to it, It COULD affect your unborn child if you are pregnant.
I dont wish to worry you about it though. And I think in small quantities it is ok.
