Is the person behind the music more important than the music itself?

The other day I was talking to a teacher and he told me about how bad some artists are in person but how great their creations are. For example, Amy Winehouse. Ok, she's a drug addict, she's got an attitude problem, skin problems, alcohol issues and so on. But she has fantastic songs, an amazing voice (hope she won't lose it due to her uncontrolled life) and people seem to love her music and care less about her personal life. What do you think? Is the person behind the music more important than the music itself?

If the person has bad habits, personality, and lifestyle, but their creation isn't influenced by this, then I would view it the same way I would anyone else's. However, if I feel that the person is incorporation the negative things about them into what they're doing, then I probably wouldn't have respect for it. I think that professional and personal life are very different and do not mix. That is why, if Amy Winehouse creates music I like, I will listen to it despite her faults, but if she combines her professional and personal life, it would be the opposite. For me, the most important thing with artists is to have a boundary between these two lives that they do not cross unless it is for the benefit of their career. My view on this is that the person behind the music is seperate from the person themself, so I think it's possible to appreciate the music and not the person. ^_^

Thank you Zezloler for your time spent to respond to this discussion. There are many artists I listen to but am not interested in their lives. If the music is great, why would I need to know more about what are they doing in their sleep or while they're taking a shower. Have a lovely day :)

for me i consider the person behind the music important ... because there are singers whom i don't like no matter how good and nice is their music... The person singing the song creates more impact than the song . That's my opinion because that's what i usually consider now...
